Hello, so I own a thunderbeast 338 ultra RR model and I’d like to get a custom adapter made for it to accept end caps. Specifically the dead air pattern, now I know a reputable ffl that’s a silencer manufacture, more so small time and I’m having him make me an adapter for the ultra and some other adapters.
I asked about an end cap adapter and he said due to the design of it that would it be expensive. 1000$ plus because of how the brake is made, I asked if he could get the whole silencer in to measure the threads and taper but he said he wouldn’t be interested and to leave it at that. I get it, sounds like a lot of work and he’s busy just for one order.

I’m thinking if he gets 10+ orders he’d be more interested.
It would be grade 5 titanium with a wrench interface of some kind. Preferably made so that the end cap and the brake can both be on at the same time. What I mean is, you put the adapter on and leave it on and remove the brake as you want off of this adapter. So if you remove the brake, you’re still left with a flat end cap. Benefits being better performance on smaller calibers and better performance when you have the brake off and just have a flat cap.

Price wise, I’m thinking it would be 200-300 per unit. Maybe a bit more, I don’t like the idea of exposed threads so maybe also add a thread protector when the brake is off? I’d like to come back to him with a solid 10 orders, preferably 15+. If interested please send me a DM so I can get a list of people that are interested. again, only if you are 100% wanting this, no flakes I don’t want to waste the guys time.
I’ve never set up a group buy before but I’m thinking everyone will get their own invoice from the manufacturer.

Why would you think you would get better performance with the brake off?

Because the brake causes the gasses to move towards the shooter. According to tbac themselves the flat cap has better performance than the brake version.
Different end cap sizes have remarkably better performance as well. Maybe less so on the tbac because it’s already extremely quiet and has a lot of volume for something like 223 but still, there would be a difference. I imagine the difference would be greater on smaller caliber rounds that have gas volume somewhat comparable to 338 lapua, like 300 rum or its sub calibers.
I’m not saying it would be a massive difference but it’s a nice option to have for when you want maximum suppression.

I'd be curious about this. Was wondering why TBAC doesn't make a plain end cap for their RR cans so you can swap between louder/less recoil for matches and quieter/shorter for practice and plinking steel.

Edit: Answered my own question. There's another thread already talking about this and TBAC received legit legal advice that offering a different end cap is a no-go.

You might notice that most (maybe all? I haven't checked) of those competitors also make some sort of non-suppressor device (usually a blast can) that will also work with their end caps. IANAL, but my understanding is, the possibility of a customer purchasing an end cap with the intent to use it on something other than a suppressor allows theses companies to get a variance from ATF specifying that their end caps are not suppressor parts and so don't need to be treated as such.

Maybe ATF will change their mind about this, maybe not.

Are you familiar with the AREA 419 Maverick? They don’t appear to be hiding behind any smoke and mirrors.

I thought we were talking about selling or shipping suppressor parts separate from complete suppressors, in the absence of a form 4. Apologies if I misunderstood something.

Area 419 sells the Mav as a kit & doesn’t sell individual pieces of the system separately.

I don’t know of a legal reason why TBAC couldn’t ship the Magnus cans with two separate endcaps. Maybe there is one I’m unaware of, maybe not.

There’s definitely some reason, though.

I have a hard time imagining them keeping two different SKUs of the same suppressor just for kicks.

Yeah I’m not worried about this, every other manufacturer has removable end caps or different suppressor stages. This design uses the available DA end caps that you can buy separately perfectly legally from a number of vendors and manufacturers. Just need the right number of people to make it worth while in terms of economies of scale.

Well they could have just had an internal end cap that you could remove, like the DA pattern of end caps. So when you take off the brake you still have a flat cap. That’s one cap for the can and it would be up to the customer if they want to buy extras from different companies. It wouldn’t cost that much more, just one more set of threads and taper inside.

Thankful I found this thread. Just picked up my 338 ultra RR-BA. Wont need the RR for all the rounds im shooting. So the option of a flat cap would be nice! I've emailed TBAC as well. Since a few other makers offer various end caps the whole is it legal thing just doesn't sound quite correct.

I have a couple of Yankee Hill Cans myself but have not handled the one you have. Not sure of the taper you mean. Either I could find someone local willing to hand one off or you could send yours my way. I hold an FFL so legalities are no issue, I have cans in house on occasion for cleaning and repair.

Theres a taper inside the end part of the can, with external threads.
For the brake section, it’s a solid piece with this tapered male end that goes inside the suppressor to lock it. Then a loose collar that’s inside the brake section threads over the outside of the suppressor. You would have to replicate this male and female taper section.
