Gunsmithing Modifying OAL on Accurate .223 mag

I just got an Accurate .223 magazine that I need to modify for a longer COAL. These have a max of 2.350 and my COAL is 2.550; rifle is throated long for 75 gr AMAX. What is the best way to open up the plastic insert to allow a longer COAL? I haven't had much time to work with the mag yet so...

    Variances in shoulder set back..

What I found out recently is that the lube used for case sizing can have a big impact on consistency of how the shoulder is set back during resizing. I was using Hornady One Shot which I believe is a wax based lube and I was have a very difficult time getting a consistent shoulder bump. I then...

    Bad Lapua .223 brass?

I've been in correspondence with Lapua and they are having issues with the foam placed in the box to minimize the brass rattling around causing this tarnishing. They assured me their annealing process can never reach below the shoulder area. They are aware of the discoloration issue and trying...

    Bad Lapua .223 brass?

I just opened a new box of Lapua .223 brass to start assembling fire forming loads for my new .223AI. A number of the cases are discolored at the base and in some cases down the case body. It almost looks like they were improperly annealed or exposed to heat. I've never had brass that looked...

    223AI throat and COAL

I just picked up a .223AI Bartlein barreled action with only 200 rounds fired so far, and built by a fairly well known shop. This rifle seems to have a very long throat. I expected it to be throated for heavier bullets, but the 75 grain AMAX doesn't have a full bullet diameter of bearing surface...

Just keep an eye on Gunbot for powder, I just had an 8 pounder of H4350 delivered from Natchez, it's starting to show up here and there.

    6 Creedmoor neck diameter

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a .274 neck is OK but I should check my brass and clean up any necks that run toward the thick side. I read GAP was using .277 necks but I think that is for semi-auto rifles. What throat length are you using? I plan on shooting the 105 grain Berger Hybrids.

    6 Creedmoor neck diameter

For those of you using the Hornady 6 Creedmoor brass (not necked down 6.5 creedmoor) what is the neck diameter on your loaded rounds? Looking at reamers and wondering what loaded neck diameters folks are getting with that brass.

    17 WSM anybody tried it?

As much as I'd like to try out this cartridge I just can't get past the butt ugly Savage rifle. If CZ or someone would build an attractive rifle in 17 WSM I'd buy it.

    Photos 6mm RAT

Re: 6mm RAT I am in the process of building something similar, however, I decided to go with the 6mm BRX instead of one of the Grendel based 6mm catridges. Looks like you've got a great rifle.
