So, I decided to take apart my rifle.

Here is essentially what I am getting out of this: "Hey guys, I got this $3500 rifle from a reputable smith and decided to take it apart to have a look. After I took it apart, I noticed a few things that looked rough and needed fixing, so I went ahead and did those things, that maybe the smith...

So, I decided to take apart my rifle.

If I paid $3500 for a rifle, I would expect damn near perfection. If I bought a $3500 rifle and took it apart and found all of that, I would be pissed. The first thing I would do is call the smith and give him the option of cleaning all that shit up. If he said no or said it would cost more...

So, I decided to take apart my rifle.

I agree you should let us know who the smith wast that put it together, if not BAT. Maybe it would be a motivator to step up their game. And as far as not wanting to take food out of their kid's mouths, if the smith loses business based on shoddy work, maybe he should find a new income stream.

Do you need match 175 BTHP's

Is it a bad deal either way?

    Trim-it upgrade

I just trimmed 600 pieces of 223 and I used a pair of these: Super Gription® Thermal Latex Coated Gloves - XL S-19884X - Uline To help with grip. Make sure you have a fast rotation as well. My drill is 2000rpm and it was just fine. Of course I also have wrists like a baseball bat and hands the...

    Trim-it upgrade

Would you be so kind as to measure the diameter of your cutter where it goes into the body, just to see if there is a chance? Mine is .3715" for both the 308 and 223 trimmers where they insert into the body.

    Trim-it upgrade

Looks like the WFT from Little Crow with a micrometer adjustment. The 3-way cutter is awesome. Would like to know if they sell it separately and if it will fit my WFT bodies.

Rifle Scopes Reticle suggestion for newb...MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA??

I have always heard mil/mil for tac shooting and moa/moa for benchrest shooting.

Rifle Scopes Vortex PST 6-24 FFP MRAD vs Bushnell G2DMR 3.5-21

So, what you're saying is that you looked at it and smelled it and said it isn't worth a damn. Have you looked through a Vortex PST and/or used one in the field? Just remember, coal looks like shit and smells like shit, but produces diamonds under pressure.

Is this normal for a match bullet?

I would say no real effect at short ranges, say less than 400-500yds. What about at 1000+ yds? Probably very noticeable with benchrest and marginally noticeable for ringing steel. Without good measurements and a nice flow modeling analysis, we're all just pissing in the wind. I maintain it could...

Is this normal for a match bullet?

Not sure if you are serious. Vortex air coming off the tail can certainly swirl in that region and cause unwanted movement.

    savage extractor malfunction

I did that once, but then again, it was from a cartridge that I had mislabeled and was 2grains over Max load and blew out the extractor assembly and ejector assembly. Thankfully, the boltface and chamber were ok.

    Another OCW Guidance Thread

Hey Guys- Had a chance to get out yesterday with a .308 load to test OCW. The following was shot with a Savage 10FP 1-10" Twist: The grid is 1/2" squares done in AutoCAD. They were two separate targets, so I had to cut the sheets to get them both on the printer. Top to bottom is...

    Ogive Measurment Differences

Hey guys- I have been going through the 3rd Step tutorial from the pinned threads to find a good start length for my loads. I have both 175 SMKs and 155 Scenars. Last night, I went through and did some measuring and found the following: 175 SMK Ogive Length = 2.244" 155 Scenar Ogive...

Rifle Scopes Burris XTR Rings measurements

What are you using them with? I have a set of XTR lows on an EGW 20 MOA base with a Vortex PST 6-24x50 riding on top of a Savage 10FP. With the Butler Creek cap, I have about 3-4 mm of space between the barrel and the cap.

    Rifle Scopes Vortex Bump

Wow, really? I just sent my PST to get looked at and they just sent me the repair form and told me to ship it to them. It was only $8 for Priority, but still, sounds like I just spent money I didn't need to.

Rifle Scopes Which height rings with stock Savage 10?

With my EGW 20MOA HD base, I use Burris XTR Lows with my Vortex PST 6-24x50 and a Butler Creek cap clears by a couple of millimeters. I have a Savage 10FP 308.
