what are you guys using for tough tactical combat pants?

I found these Dickies Tactical cargo shorts at a discount store and kinda laughed as to what exactly made these ‘tactical’, as everyone overuses the term now. Well I bought them and when I tried them on at home I discovered they had this inner expanding elastic waistband on the sides. I had an...

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

Well, the first military sniper rifles WERE HUNTING RIFLES! ;)

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

Pretty spot on, down to the Boyds stock even! LoL Yes, I started out with a cheapo Savage 116 Hunter XP. No, I’m not new to shooting. I’m just trying to see how far I can go. I have switched to bags in leu of the Harris bipod (another accurate assumption) with better results. I’m not going to...

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

At least pinning it? I know they weld em on 14.5" barrels to make them permanently 16” to avoid SBR tax.

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

Northern California foothills. Very wooded and hilly. I’ve found some sandbars by the river that measure over 1000yds but not sure of the legality of shooting there. I know of the range in Sacramento, but not too keen on shooting around a bunch of yahoos. Ideally looking for private property...

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

Probably would have made it happen already if I HAD A PLACE TO SHOOT 1000+ YDS!

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

I don’t really trust clamp on muzzle brakes, sorry. I thought about welding it tho?

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

Yeah, I put a heavy, laminate thumbhole stock on and that mitigated the recoil quite a bit, distributing it between my shoulder and palm. I looked into a brake but the sporter barrel profile is prohibitive as it’s pretty thin. Would have to go custom, it seems. I think my bipod is too tall as it...

    1000+ Yards without a Spotter?

So I got this .300 winmag in the hopes of getting into some long range fun and I was wondering how realistic it would be to get out there without a spotter? I’ve been able to get to 600 yds on my own little by little, and in little to no wind conditions. Haven’t attempted anything longer, mostly...

    Flinching

I have Savage 116 in .300wm and it kicked like a mule until I replaced the tupperware stock with a laminate, (heavy) thumbhole stock with a limbsaver pad. That really helped mitigate the recoil since the thumbhole grip transfers some of it to yhe palm of your hand and off your shoulder. I would...

    Rifle Twist Question?

The 208 ELD’s look promising, and a good weight compromise. Thanks folks! May try the Berger 215 hybrids too.

    Rifle Twist Question?

I have standard, 3round mags from Savage 110. I’d like to retain mag feed but open to single feed. I don’t load near the lands on the winmag due to pressure spike and the bullets I’ve been using seem to like a little jump. I think if you’re jamming bullets into the lands on a winmag you’re...

    Rifle Twist Question?

In my attempts to stretch the 300 Win mag out to 1000yds and beyond, I have come to the conclusion that I would most probably benefit from using a heavier projectile for developing a new ELD load. (Currently 180, 190 SMK) My questions are would my 10” twist be sufficient to stabilize a 210-230...

How to tell if a load is compressed?

I’s say, “if you need to use a powder tube in order to be able to seat the bullet, it’s probably a compressed load!"

How to tell if a load is compressed?

Many powder manufacturers publish the powder’s weight per cc or something like that. (Weight per specified volume.) Somehow measure volume of an empty case minus amount displaced by bullet seating at proper depth in grains H2O, convert that to cc’s then compare to how many grains per cc powder...

    Stupid Reloading Question

I began noticing a gradual loss of neck tension after 5 reloads, or so, on my .300 win mag brass. I attributed this to work hardening of the brass and spring back after neck sizing. I decided to try annealing a few cases, and sure enough, proper neck tension was restored! I now anneal my cases...

Bullets unseating in AR10 when chambering

Too much crimp, to the point of bullet distortion can actually decrease neck tension. The neck springs back and the crushed bullet does not! Don’t over crimp!

    Brass Annealing Guide

I began annealing when I noticed the neck tension diminish after about 5-6 firings. I annealed with a propane torch and a socket and neck tension was restored. It was very early on I discovered the advantage of annealing. I do it now every 3 firings usually.

AR10 Failure to Feed Match Ammo

If you load and chamber a single round and fire it, does the bolt lock back on an empty mag? If not, open your gas block a half a turn till it does. If you’re shooting FMMG 168 ammo, it’s not a hot load by any means.

    I’m stumped..help

It sounds like you’re not bumping the shoulder back enough. Screw your sizing die in a quarter turn more until your brass chambers more easily. Many times when you full length resize, the brass will actually grow, this is a sign you havent bumped the shoulder back enough. I find when I bump the...
