I wanna get my first bolt for the range and target shooting, any recommendation?

That right there is pretty much what got me to switch to 6.5... the only thing 308 had going for it in my case was cheaper cheap ammo. Cool, I can shoot soft point for $0.60 per, get shit results, and wonder if it's me, the rifle, or crap ammo. I didn't buy a lot of good .308 before I switched...

BREAKING: Another person sets himself on fire in front of the White House.

Man, first Bradley Manning announced he'd sooner starve to death than testify against Assange, now there's this guy. About time the left makes some choices we can all get behind.

    Gunsmithing McGowan barrels any good?

I just installed my McGowen last month, my first custom barrel. Only shot it once so far, but shooting from an uncomfortably low sitting position (due to range rules) with 140gr 6.5 American Gunner my best group was around 0.6MOA... and that was including a flier that I don't doubt was on me...

    Torquing tool options

I got the Gearwrench version of an OTC 3383-25, which is an electronic, adjustable torque wrench designed for valve stems on TPMS sensors. Couldn't argue with it for like $60, it's adjustable from lower than you could want to go to as high as you could need unless you're torquing on a barrel...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Tried out a new range after work today, and put 50 rounds of 140 American Gunner through it. Can't complain for $0.70 a trigger pull, and the fact I was sitting on my left foot cuz the seats at the benches are super low. Considering how not that great I am, that barrel's doing pretty damn...

Remove Tikka T3X series rifle factory barrel?

If I didn't fuck mine up (haven't got a chance to go find out with boolits yet, but the bolt still runs smooth!) you'd have to use retard strength on it to fuck up the action. I paid $40 locally to have it removed after I tried and failed, but the guy who did it I'm pretty sure hooked me up...

Rifle Scopes Ring height for tikka ctr/56mm bell (cant measure yet)

I have Warne MT high rings, with a 30mm/50mm and a 20MOA rail. Plenty of room even with a medium Palma barrel, I'm planning to drop down to 0.87" rings and still have a comfortable amount of room, 3mm more bell radius and a cap shouldn't be an issue.

Remove Tikka T3X series rifle factory barrel?

Mayhaps so... I was at the point of "what am I willing to buy (that I'll probably never need again) to remove a barrel I might net $120 selling?"... the only non-A-hole local gun shop quoted me $95 an hour and "at least an hour, maybe more". I reckon even LRI's very reasonable $50, by the time...

Remove Tikka T3X series rifle factory barrel?

Yeah... I think it's more the shoulder "pressing" on the action face than it is literal, rotational torque. But that's the gist of it. The aforementioned theory of temperature difference is the only thing I could come up with to explain how tight it ends up with what seems to not be all that...

Remove Tikka T3X series rifle factory barrel?

I unfortunately forgot to take my stub of barrel with me from the machine shop, but he stuck it in a lathe and cut down the circumference of the shoulder. It was about 3/16" wide, and juuuust in front of the face. I thought about trying to do lengthwise, but decided I'd rather not risk it.

Remove Tikka T3X series rifle factory barrel?

From my experience (I think I posted it in the Tikka thread a few weeks ago) it's not the threads that are the issue, and I don't know how much penetrating lube would help, it's tension from the shoulder to the action face. My theory is that they're torquing them with the action heated and the...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Should be a 5mm hex bit, if your chassis is anything like my LSS-XL, you need either a medium or long bit to get at the rear screw. I bought a regular Carlyle 1/4" drive from Napa and it's just the right length- they're longer than most. I'd start by torquing it up right... bit is like $6.

Custom Action (Bighorn Origin) or Tikka T3x

RE: the nitrided bolt point... aren't only the CTR and TAC bolts coated? And it's my understanding that they're a coating, not actually nitrided? Could be wrong, I bought a plain jane... I'd say if you just want a custom action, or the enjoyment of building it up yourself, go for it...

Will do... I wasn't expecting it back from the Cerakote guy so quick (just dropped off the middle of last week) and my ammo won't be here til Friday... I'm off work today and the urge to go buy a couple boxes locally and take it out was strong. I ordered the barrel the end of January and it...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Finally "done" after pretty much a month of dicking around trying to get my factory Lite barrel off, and my new one set up. New one is a 24" SS 6.5CM McGowen, 8" twist in roughly medium Palma, but at 1.20" at the chamber instead of 1.25" to fit under the magnum Bugnut. Ended up having 0.075"...

Thread pitch: Howa barreled action w/ factory threaded bolt knob

    1. Take knob to hardware store? 2. Attempt to thread knob onto 5/16-18 bolt? 3. Failing that, try more sizes til you find the right one, or find out it's none of the ones there? I mean, looks about right from here, but I don't have it in my hand...

    Tikka CTR & AICS Magazines

I believe the MDT poly mags work, but I'm not positive. But I can tell you that you can make Magpuls work with very little work on the feed lips. Where the feed lips mate with the underside of the action is a bit too wide, but the bigger culprit is the 'shoulders' of the mag not allowing it high...
