Re: PDQ* Will a "zero" value wind effect elevation? I've actually had to use less elevation @1000 yds.w/ a headwind due to lift.

Re: So, what does a 1000 yd shot look like? Either get a laser rangefinder, or use a mil-dot reticle (on a known size objects) and take some range measurements. Heck, I'd say get a mil-dot scope and measure things like stop signs, window frames......just don't freak anyone out. Get your .308...

Re: Ak47 scope base? It may not be what he is looking for; but an Ultimak gas tube is a nice option. It has a rail on top and you can mount a red-dot scope like an Aimpoint H-1 and still be able to co-witness the iron sights.
