The pelt is worth money if you shoot them in the head. You should be able to find a local trapper if you do not want to mess with pelt. The trapper will want head shots and winter coat.
Re: How to clean a trigger I got some Zippo, already had some brake cleaner, 3-1 oil, acetone... I tried Zippo first as it has the most votes. It worked great but not fully back to original performance. I let sit for a day and then the trigger just locked up after firing. I had to remove the...
Can anyone advise on how to clean a trigger? Specifically I know how to remove a TRG trigger but it is one nice package that is not obvious to me how to clean. It is best left to a gunsmith, can I use a solvent, can I put any gun oil on it. thanks
This is the first buck my son had to work for. We spotted him at 1300 Yds and while we were thinking about using the TRG or making the 5 mile stalk he bedded down out of sight and made the choice for us. It took 12 hours to walk around and come down on top, shoot, bone, and pack it back to...
Re: Optic power to hunt at 800 yds I have several scopes I can choose from... There is no problem shooting 5.5x22 if the animal is standing. Moving may be a problem but so will my 3x12. For me I always shoot better with a rest and big glass. I always choose the 6x24 or 5.5x22 over my 3x12. I...
Re: Hunting 308 round If your shooting close range (<100 Yds, maybe even 200 yds) then unlikely to matter. Try a bunch and use whatever works. If you try to stretch out you may find that only certain factory loads can still get the job done. I keep some SGK and TSX for close up work but for...
I have never taken apart my TRG-42 trigger because I have never had an issue with it. However it currently no longer has the two stage working. Just one pull and never know when it will break. I am in a hurry and was curious is it more likely a screw came loose, the trigger is dirty, or do they...
Re: What bases and rings for a hunting rifle? I am big fan of NightForce unimount. Easy to put the same scope on all my rails, turn the knobs and right on with no sight in. Completely repeatable. I am putting a direct mount on my hunting rig this weekend so do not have any time using it yet...
Re: What actually makes rings "good". I have always purchased from the high end and used by other as I did not one to be the tester. I have never had issues with any of the top end vendors. That said I am now exclusively using NightForce unimount on anything with rails and the direct mount...
Re: New hunting rifle zero pros/cons averages can work to 3-400 yards and after that you better have a baseline and adjust accordingly. Example: It is possible to sight in for 300 yards and hold over at 400 yards. It is easier to get a ballistic scope. But even at short distances you still...

Re: 338 lapua woes. The key point that I read here is that the first shot is always on and the followers are always off. I am assuming when you say first shot you mean a completely new range session and that means a completely cold barrel. Ask yourself what is the probability that a fouled...
Re: Eberlestock pack size?? I like the Gun Slinger. You can load it up plenty with the outside straps. I tend to load up heavy and drop most of the gear at a mini drop camp. I also tend to hunt in pairs with only one gun as then one of us can pack the camp.
Re: Bolt action newbie would like some advice Someone is always selling a Rem 5R on this site and it will be the best bang for the buck. However ammo for the 308 is more expensive then 223. If your new calculate the cost of ammo buying it factory vs reloading. My 5R likes the 175 SMK so pick...
