M1A Problem

Make certain that the gas cylinder lock is threaded fully on. It's not difficult to stop one thread early, and then install the gas cylinder plug - I've seen it done more than once.

To Rebarrel or Not - That is the Question

The heavy barrel is not considered an external modification, so it is legal for service rifle competition. Not sure about the weight difference - it's been a long time since I've screwed with my M1As much. I'm guessing about 2 pounds difference, just off the top of my head.

    Taper roll crimp

Re: Taper roll crimp Taper crimps are normally used for auto pistol cartridges; roll crimps are for straight wall revolver cartridges. There are exceptions, but this is the general rule.

    Brass shavings when resizing

Re: Brass shavings when resizing If you're going to keep the expander ball in your sizing die, do this: disassemble the die, and chuck the decapping stem/expander ball in your cordless drill. Spin it and polish (emphasis on polish) the expander ball...

What else causes heavy bolt lift besides presssue?

Re: What else causes heavy bolt lift besides presssue? Installing a heavier striker spring will increase bolt lift. I would look at improperly sized brass first. http://blog.sinclairintl.com/2009/02/19/setting-up-a-full-length-sizing-die/

Gunsmithing Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist problem

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist problem Look closely to insure that nothing is sticking up around the bedding block that's preventing the action from sitting straight. Next, check to insure that the barrel channel was cut straight to begin with. Yours wouldn't be the first B&C stock to...

LED lights in my reloading press for about $20

Re: LED lights in my reloading press for about $20 This will be a very useful addition to my Dillon 550B - that and a small mirror will allow me to insure that I didn't have a senior moment and neglect to drop a powder charge. I've only done that once...

    Single Stage Press Opinions

Re: Single Stage Press Opinions Either one will work quite well, as would a Redding Boss, Lyman Crusher, or Lee Classic Cast. I've been using a Rock Chucker since 1981 (I got a late start) with complete satisfaction. I have since supplemented it with additional presses for other uses, but...

    Carbide Dies

Re: Carbide Dies Just to be contrary, while lube is certainly not required for carbide pistol dies, it does make your brass run through them slick as snot on a doorknob! Sure, you have to clean it off; doesn't...

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof I insist that anyone who wants to shoot over my chrony do one of two things: 1) place a $100 bill (as a deposit) on the table, or 2) let me do the shooting.

Re: Is Fire Forming Cases Worth it??? David Tubbs fireforms his brass during competition, and he normally wins! Regardless what your opinion of him is, you can't argue with success.

Re: Homemade swagging press... can load 50 BMG too There's a guy making and selling them on Cast Boolits; search for u.p.north (Tim). I think mine was just north of $600, including shipping, with a 7/8-14 adapter for the top plate.

Problem depriming Lapua .308 Palma brass

Re: Problem depriming Lapua .308 Palma brass Sinclair sells a flash hole reamer to open these up slightly so they'll clear the standard size decapping pin. Or, you can use an appropriate size drill bit in a pin vise and do the same thing.

Expander ball dragging- way to fix?

Re: Expander ball dragging- way to fix? The Redding bushing dies with their competition seater make excellent ammo, but they are rather spendy. Forster dies also make excellent ammo, and they're more reasonably priced. Far as that goes, some folks swear by the Lee Deluxe dies sets with...

Re: Building up a 6.5 grendel AR need some pointers... I would recommend going to the 6.5 Grendel forum and doing some reading, although most of your questions probably have the same answer - Alexander Arms. http://www.65grendel.com/forum/
