The recoil wasn't too bad for me, at least in an XLR w/ surefire 7.62 brake. I could shoot that rifle all day without problems. Hell a couple of ladies got behind it and didnt have any issue either. A good stock(heavy) and brake make a huge difference.
I had a Remington 700 5R 300WM that was 20". I was able to get Berger 230 Hybrids up to 2580 FPS +/- 22 FPS. At 1000 yds that is roughly 1500 FPS and carries a FT-LBS energy of 1160. I was happy with it and I would do it again. Not to mention, a 20" is very handy in the woods. I hope this helps
I had several over pressure signs with H-1000 in a 20" barrel, I also couldn't get very good velocity with such a short barrel. Every rifle is different and H-1000 is an awesome powder and might be a good powder to add into your testing.
I have a 20" 300 WM and I love how handy she is. Here are some notes from my early load development, I have since landed on 74.4 grains of Ramshot Magnum and 230gr Berger Hybrids. Very accurate in my rifle and packs a punch on the other end. Just be sure to develop loads slowly and carefully...
I have a 20" 300 WM and I am always over the max load with 208's and 230's. I worked each load up slowly and watched for any pressure signs. I cant touch the 2900's-3000's but I can hit 2600's with 230gr Hybrids.
I wont use Hornady dies anymore. I had a few issues with their dies when I first started loading, I have since switched to Redding and have been problem free.
Due to the BS going on right now, I was hoping to find a backup powder to my normal 300WM load. The only powder I could find was MR 4000 and Hogdon 100 V. Does anyone know/have load data for either of these? I tried the search and came up with nothing. I am trying to find a good load for...
Re: 230 hybrid. .300win mag.. Powder?? Aimsmall, those are some truly awesome numbers! I'm heading to the range in the am to further test my loads with Ramshot Magnum and the 230's. I will post the results afterword
Re: 230 hybrid. .300win mag.. Powder?? I am attempting to find a good load for my 20" 300 WM. to use with my can, so I loaded up some Berger 230 gr hybrid target w/ varying levels of Ramshot magnum to see how this combo works. I am very impressed by this combination and hope to see better...
Re: 20" 300WM with a can? Why not? **Chrono update** Lets bring this thread back to life gents! I am attempting to find a good load for my 20" 300 WM. to use with my can, so I loaded up some Berger 230 gr hybrid target w/ varying levels of Ramshot magnum to see how this combo works. I am...
Re: 20" 300WM with a can? Why not? **Chrono update** I also have a 20" 300WM and I would like to offer some of my data to this cause. My high side FPS was 2848 and low of 2822 using Federal 190 gr Sierra MatchKings BTHP. I only was able to shoot 10 rounds through the chronograph because the...
Re: Need help picking first optic..... You should have your buddy call Scott at Liberty optics. He is very helpful and I am sure he can answer any questions they may have
Re: Is this simply the best scope deal at the moment? I ran a 6.5-20 x 50 on a 300 WM and had no problems other than the eye relief being a bit short. If you have a Sportsman's warehouse or other big box sporting goods store, they might have one you can look through and compare with the other...
