New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

Are you sure about that round count? Hard, if not impossible to believe that barrel still has any rifling left let alone still shooting .3's given how overbore that combo is. I would love to be wrong but.............

Gunsmithing Badger FTE install questions...(thread timing)

It's out by about 3/4's of a turn. My concern was that the play in the threads would allow enough movement for the possibility of bullet strike if it wasn't pulled up on the shoulder. If you think that the doing the cross bolt up will resolve that issue that works for me.

Gunsmithing Badger FTE install questions...(thread timing)

Hi all, When a customer asks to have an FTE installed is it common practice to time the threads so that it pulls up on the shoulder wih the cross bolt at the bottom? Cheers in advance

Maggie’s Went To A Rugby Match and a Hockey Game Started

Re: Went To A Rugby Match and a Hockey Game Started New Zealand and Australia well represented in that clip The State of Origin series (The light blue v's maroon coloured jerseys that featured a LOT) is always good to watch for a bit of impromptu carnage. Mike - Where did you play rugby?

Gunsmithing 7wsm Reamer and throating for the new 195VLD

Re: 7wsm Reamer and throating for the new 195VLD An imporoved .300 Norma Mag necked down to 7mm on a med/long action with the 195 Bergers is my idea of a wet dream. A WSM or SAUM just aint gonna cut it. I personally think they are pretty much maxed with the 162 A-max. Dont get me wrong...

Gunsmithing Rockwell hardness levels - in real life?

Re: Rockwell hardness levels - in real life? PCSchwenke - Hmmm, galling is less than ideal, especially in a collet type bolt arrangement. Thank you for your feedback. Chad - I was hoping you would chime in especially given that it was you that made me aware that galling could be a problem in...

Gunsmithing Rockwell hardness levels - in real life?

Re: Rockwell hardness levels - in real life? Turbo - Its hard to explain unless you are familiar with the Blaser line. Basically they dont have an action/reciever in the way a Remington does for example. At the chamber end of the Barrel there is an extension (its all one piece from the...

Gunsmithing Rockwell hardness levels - in real life?

Re: Rockwell hardness levels - in real life? The recieved will be made out of 17-4. The plan is to screw a barrel blank into the end of it. I did not know that about 17-4! Ideally I would like to leave it as it comes which is what prompted my question in the first place. Is the 5 points...

Gunsmithing Rockwell hardness levels - in real life?

Hi all, Firstly, I freely admit that I am a noob at this sort of stuff so please ignore any incorrect terminology etc I've got a bit of a project going and I have been reading lately about the suggested differences in hardness between the bolt face and barrel to reduce/eliminate galling. Now...

Rifle Scopes Leupold Mark 6 3-18 H-58 or CMR-W Reticle?

Re: Leupold Mark 6 3-18 H-58 or CMR-W Reticle? I struggle to understand why they are not releasing this with the TMR reticle. It would be about perfect on a longish range hunting rifle where a Horus or similar would just be painful.

    7mm WSM rifle build

Re: 7mm WSM rifle build I would personally go a 7/300WSM purely from a brass perspective. You will still get plenty of velocity and slightly better barrel life. Also a longer neck.

Rifle Scopes Whats on the horizon for Rangefinding Binos?

Re: Whats on the horizon for Rangefinding Binos? Everything is a compromise ! In this situation the compromise is a clear and easy to see readout versus light transmission/optical performance. You might like the Leica Geovids. They have a very clear readout but do not transmit as much light...

Simple Green instead of Dawn soap....anyone tried?

Guys, Has anyone tried Simple Green in their tumbler using Cory's Stainless Tumbling Media? Dawn soap is not available in New Zealand and from what I understand it's the surfactants (sic?) that do the cleaning. Simple Green seems to be the strongest in that area of products that are available...
