    Gunsmithing Rifling Types and Accuracy

I've read in several places that certain types of rifling are more accurate in specific calibers. For example, several people that should know have opined that 5R rifling isn't optimal in .223 caliber rifles and that standard 3 or 4 groove would be more likely to produce an accurate barrel...

    Gunsmithing 5.56 Reamer Advice

I am looking for info on a reamer and gauges for an SPR build. It will be run almost exclusively with MK 262 and Green Tip...primarily MK 262. I keep running into 223 match reamers and gauges which I'm pretty sure won't work. Anybody know what reamer and gauges were used on actual SPRs built...

Why are poly rifled barrels not more common?

Why are barrels like Schneider's P5 not more common in the precision rifle world? Tubb uses them and the USMC installs them on the M40s...but you see few if any in Benchrest competition and they are far less common than Kreiger, Bartlein, Broughton, and so on. Are Schneider's barrels...

    Gunsmithing Bighorn Action Question

I am thinking about doing a 260 build on a Bighorn action in an AX Chassis. In looking at the Tactical model and the Sporter model, the tactical version with the closed top seems like it could be problematic if you had a stuck case, failure to extract, etc. Is the gain by using the...

    Gunsmithing AX Chasis Problem

Hoping someone can assist... I have a Stiller Tac 300 300 win mag installed in an AX Chasis that is having difficulty feeding the last round in the magazine. As the bolt pushes the last round in the magazine forward and it begins to climb the feed ramp, the rear of the round is forced down by...

Why Do 700s and Clones Fail to Eject Live Rounds?

I have had several long action 700s in 300 win mag and all had difficulty ejecting live rounds. Is there a general consensus on why and how to fix it?

Suppressors MK 13 300 Win Mag Suppressor

I have seen where the new Mod 6 of the MK 13 is being issued with either a Surefire or AAC can. Does anyone know the part numbers for the mounts and which Surefire can is being issued? AAC doesn't have the mount on their website and Surefire doesn't specify which one they are using either.

    Suppressors MK 13 Suppressor

Does anyone know which can was chosen for the new Mod 6 version of the MK 13? I see an AAC MK 13 can on their website, but I thought it was a Surefire can and mount?

    Extractor Question

I am looking to replace the bolt on my 700 (300 win mag) with a 1 piece unit from PTG but I was unsure as to which extractor would be optimal. Is the M-16 style more reliable than the Sako or the original Remington version?

    Gunsmithing Contouring from a blank

Most smiths seem to prefer barrels that are contoured from the maker. From what I understand, contouring a blank isn't super hard and it seems like the smith would have more control over the final finish, dimensions, etc by contouring himself. Why is this not more common? Is there a downside?

    Rifle Scopes Nightforce Reticle Specs

I purchased a NXS 3.5-15x50 F1 with an LV.5 reticle but the manual didn't include dimensions/specs for the reticle. Google didn't help and nothing on their website. Anybody have the specs/dimensions on this reticle?

    Gunsmithing Remington 700 Bolt Question

I have a 700 5R that seems to have a strange issue. The bolt makes a click sound in the last few mm of rotation and seems to almost rotate too far...as in when viewed from the top down, you can see the bolt body slide to the direction of the bolt handle as it clicks on the last bit of closing...

    Gunsmithing Need a Gunsmith

I am hoping that someone can point me in the direction of a good gunsmith that works on Mauser actions. Long story short, I have a Browning Safari bolt action 300 win mag from the 1960s. Back in the day, they were made by FN on Mauser actions. The action and wood are decent but the barrel has...
