End cap to replace AI muzzle brake?

Is there an end-cap available to protect the threads on my AE barrel when the muzzle brake is removed? Thinking I wanna try F-class shooting, where the MB is not allowed. Would this be a custom item? Thanks

    Data Books

Re: Data Books That's the one I got. Love it. The (w)rite in rain paper is nice, as is the cover. CDROM has targets to match the pages, as well as the SH dot drill, ready to print. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: JFComfort</div><div...

    Jump to the lands

Re: Jump to the lands Looks like he's asking about 100 thousandths. How did u make up the first dummy round? Do u have your actual chamber oal measured with that bullet?

    Recommend me some sniper books.

Re: Recommend me some sniper books. As mentioned above, just finished up Marine Sniper ankd Silent Warrior, both chronicles of the legendary Carlos Hathcock, and both good reads. Also vote for Trigger Men by Halberstadt. These were some of my Christmas gifts and very appreciated.

    Accuracy International twist rates

Re: Accuracy International twist rates 0.8 inch groups at 200 meters are no problem out of my AE MKII with 20 inch barrel using 175s and Varget. Think I can do better also. Shooting in 17 degrees starts to get uncomfortable for me after a while.

    Dillon Super 1050 w/ 1200 Trimmer

Re: Dillon Super 1050 w/ 1200 Trimmer What about dedicating a cheaper 650 tool head to do the prep then finish up on the 1050?

    SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up

Re: SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up Thanks for the input, yea I'm actually leaning more towards 43.2 now. The POI seems stable. Wondering if there's anything to it that the groups in that area are smaller than along the higher node. I think that's not supposed to be important, but I like them...

    SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up

Re: SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up Thanks, I'll look more into the 44.0 and bring the bullet back off the lands in increments and try it out farther. Will check MVs on the new versus fired brass.

    SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up

Re: SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up This was essentially an OCW evaluation, and I didn't want to start low (42 in the books), cause I'd like to be able to get to 1 k if possible. I definitely will chrono, but the interior ballistics prediction for the 44.2 is at about 2545 with a 20 inch...

    SMK 175 + Varget Load Work-Up

Liking the 175s with Varget better so far than my other work-up using L155s with 8208XBR. I'm able to get the ogive just touching the lands and easily fit in the mag with room to spare (AICS). Question is, where do I go from the below initial work-up. New Lapua brass and really interested in...

    Oal with smk

Re: Oal with smk Here's the other tool you may find helpful. Use it with the appropriate modified case to measure your actual chamber dimension, from the case head to the lands (each bullet make will measure differently due to varying curvatures). When used in conjunction with a bullet...

    Oal with smk

Re: Oal with smk Yea, measuring off the ogive is the best. Check out the Sinclair sleeve, bullet comparator and a micrometer. I've recently discovered that with 175 smk, I can easily load into the lands and be magazine compliant... not so with the Lapua 155 Scenars.

    New 308 Lapua brass

Re: New 308 Lapua brass I'm wondering pretty much the same thing, but with new versus fireformed Lapua. I get 55.6 grains water capacity on the new and 57.7 on the fired. According to my interior ballistics program (name unmentioned, but starts with a "Q"), I see a max charge of 45.2 versus...

    SPS Varmint 308 with 26" 1-12 twist - 175SMK ?'s

Re: SPS Varmint 308 with 26" 1-12 twist - 175SMK ?'s Depends on how far you'll be tossing pills. Over 600 yards, most, it seems, will abandon the 168s due to potential stability issues.

    6mmbr's annealing temperatures seem questionable..

Re: 6mmbr's annealing temperatures seem questionable.. As the tempilaq is showing a delayed response, the brass may be getting to the appropriate annealing temperature. There won't be a real-time temp indication with this, but at least it is a repeatable measurement. Wondering if anyone has...

How crucial is trimming brass to exact OAL?

Re: How crucial is trimming brass to exact OAL? Like Winchester 69 said, just spend the $7 and get this tool. Measure your chamber length and keep cases trimmed back .005. http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pid=32925/Product/Sinclair_Chamber_Length_Gage

    Three Thumler's tumbler questions.

Re: Three Thumler's tumbler questions. Mine wobbles also, but so far no trouble, they are bulit to tumble for a week at a time, just check it out every so often and see that nothing is wearing (rubber bushings and stays that keep it centered). You could place the whole unit in a plastic tub...
