I had the same concerns as you prior to buying the gen 1 razor. I was particularly interested in it's internal adjustment range. I ended up taking a chance and can say I'm glad I did. I have mine mounted on a savage 112 338 lapua and I'm able to spot my own impacts. I think some of the...
I think you are taking my original comment too literal. I was speaking in the context of being able to zero at 100, considering the type of shooting OP said he was planning. Nothing is preventing you from putting a 400 moa rail on your rifle. If you don't care or want a 100 yard zero then...
With a 100 yard zero I have 22.5 mils (~75 moa) of up travel, with the gen1 razor + 20 moa rail. Initial impression of the scope is very good. Definitely a step up from the past gen 2.
From Vortex website on the mil version: Max Elevation Adjustment28.5 MRAD (See Features Tab) http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/razor-hd-gen-2-45-27x56-riflescope-with-ebr-1c-mrad-reticle Same turret design, mil vs moa shouldn't matter. You're right, I didnt catch that. Interesting that...
I don't believe the gen1 has the same issue. Based on Vortex's documentation on their site, it seems like the 70 moa up limitation is related to the gen2s turret design. The Gen 1 uses a different turret design. I also have a pst gen2 which uses the same turret design as the gen1 razor and I...
My understanding on the Razor gen2 is that the turret design allows for a max of 70 moa up. In other words, it has 113 total internal travel, divide by 2 gets you ~56 moa up. At a 20 moa rail and that should get you 76 moa u p but the turret system will limit you to 70 moa up. There would...
According to Hornady they recommend a 1-8.5 twist for their 147 eld. Using Bergers twist calculator, at 1-8.5 twist you need at least 2800fps. Anything under puts you in marginal stability. A 1-8 twist is comfortably stable, even at a velocity as low as 2600 fps. I shoot the 147s out to...
How about a 265 nosler accubond longrange at 3000 fps out of a 338 lapua. Started playing with these and RL-33. Nosler updated the BCs on the ablr, they are looking more realistic now: https://www.nosler.com/accubond-long-range-bullet/
I've had one for 3 years. Originally had it on a 260 bolt action. It's been on a 6.5 grendel AR for the past year (in Larue split rings no less). To date no problems with it. That AR even got knocked off the bench a few months ago, hitting the concrete floor resulting in some scratches on...
Just got started with 338LM myself. As far reloading procedures, its the same as all my other chambers, just a lot more powder. I came into some 285gr amax for very cheap and used them to break the barrel in. I'm just now starting load development. I have 285 elds and 265gr nosler ablr's...
I recently picked up a Savage 112 single shot 338LM rifle. This rifle will be used mostly for 1500+ yard steel targets. I do qualify for the Vortex MIL discount so I've been looking at both the razor gen1 and gen2. The strong appeal of the gen1 is both the ton of internal elevation and it...
The accidental damage combined with mil discount is why I have more vortex than anything else. To date I've had one failure out of several scopes, a diamondback HP, the side focus stopped working. It was mounted in a very crude accumounts mount/rings for a PU Mosin Nagant. I should have...
Same. Youtube coming down hard on gun channels (and airgun channels?!) this time seems worse than last time. Companies pulling NRA support seems new. The left is directly attacking the NRA with tacticts that smell like acorn/seiu. Each time a school is shot up and dozens of kids are killed...
Keep in mind, the 30 cals (along with the 6.5s and 7s) are benefiting for recent bullet designs. How old is the 300 smk? BC wise the 300smk/Scenar are not competitive. The 300gr berger hybrid been out for awhile now and the 285eld is a tweaked 285amax. The 338 cal is overdue for a refresh...
As a father of a 21 year old college student, I feel compelled to say don't dig yourself into a financial hole over a hobby. I don't know your circumstances but it sounds like money is a factor. Get yourself established in a good career (unless you are already in one) first. Expensive hobby's...
Here is my 6.5 Grendel I put together a couple of years ago. Parts used in the build: Areo Precision upper and lower CMC trigger Lilja barrel WOA float tube Ergo grip Magpul stuck Larue 745 mount Vortex Viper HST 6-24x50 (standard viper is shown in the attached photo). I even have a few...
