    Gunsmithing 300WSM Feeding

The only way I've found WSM cases to feed reliably is to go to a center feed detachable box magazine.

Gunsmithing Need some help evaluating if this lathe may be worth it........

It's worth whatever scrap is. Rough is an understatement.

Gunsmithing What is really needed to true up a factory Rem. Action?

I would send it to someone that knows what they are doing. There is no need to true the face of the receiver if the threads aren't recut at the same time. The goal is to get an even axial force pulling the barrel tight up against the receiver. Just cutting the face of the receiver doesn't do...

Gunsmithing Stupid question on free float but

Degrease both surfaces with acetone or similar and try the blue Loctite again. I wouldn't use the rockset if you have intentions of taking it apart with out heat.

    New Build - 223 vs 223AI

223, since it is a training rifle I would keep it simple, but I would consider shooting the 90gr Bergers since you have a 7 twist barrel. I have a 223 setup to shoot the 80gr Berger VLDs, (26", 7.7 twist, .155 Freebore, 2.520 OAL). If I built it again I would definitely take advantage of the...

    What 7mm?

7-338 Lapua is definitely unique....borderline ridiculous, but that's what I would build if I was stepping outside the box of practicality.

    McMillan lead Times ?

The few we've received lately all took around 6 months. Ordered one couple of weeks ago and believe I was told 6-8 months.

.223 twist rate for heavier bullets

Go with the 7.7 twist and shoot the 77 SMK at mag length for 2/3 and 80 Berger for 6. The Wylde chamber will work well.

    Gunsmithing 280 AI barrel twist

My personal gun (280 AI) has a 1-9 Bartlein 5R and it shoots great! I've only shot 168 Bergers and 160 AB though, no 180's. I've built more than a few of these for customers on 9 twist barrels and they have no problem with shooting 180's.

    Gunsmithing Question about Chambering/Reaming

This doesn't sound right. A No Go is +.005" longer than a Go. For a parent case to have the "pinch", the chamber would have to be shorter not longer right. *I've set my AI's up Go 0.000" or -.002". To get the case to fit tight to limit stretch.

    Gunsmithing Cutting internal ACME threads?

Sounds like there is not enough relief ground on your tool. Use the advice above about using a sharpie. Are you using a cutting oil? Is there material build up on your tool?

Rem 700 Origianl Trigger or new x-mark trigger from a new take off

There is nothing wrong with the original Remington trigger. They can be safely adjusted to 2 lbs by someone that knows what they are doing.

Copper fouling on threads of barrel

The copper is atomized upon firing and is re- deposited upon the gases cooling. Completely normal. But, the gases usually don't travel very far up the threads though.

Rebarreling 300WM - what calibers will give me better barrel life?

Hawk45 has the right idea. That is if you like the 300 WM..........have your smith set up 2 or 3 barrels. I've seen a little more lifeout of the 5R rifled barrels.

Re-barrel AR or buy Daniel Defense

Just re[lace the barrel and forearm. The only thing that isn't mil-spec i believe is the buffer tube. It's commercial, which IMO is more desirable.

    Gunsmithing 1911's??

The 1911 used to be the Glock of today before we started making match guns out of them. Add clearance to the slide rails and make sure that the barrel is locking up on the lugs and not the link (this breaks slide stops prematurely). Overall this will decrease accuracy but increase reliability...

    Sell me on 6.5 Creedmoor

6.5 Creedmoor is great if you want the option of good factory ammo, but if you are handloader I would seriously check out the 6.5x47 Lapua. I have built rifles in both and they all have shot great. The 6.5x47 does tend to be a little more forgiving when it comes to load development. better...
