My $219 Dick's Special 93 17HMR. So far I have done a trigger job, bolt job, paint, 20 MOA EGW base and Bushnell Elite. Time to find out which load it likes best. Apparently Savage has been listening. There were very few machining marks on the inside of the bolt. The synthetic stock action holes mate up to the action studs so that there is no gap between them, therefore no need for pillars, I have these torqued down at 25 in/lbs with no deformation of the bottom metal or stock. This is not to say that it will not shoot better with pillars and bedding but as far as needing this done right off the shelf it does not appear so.

It is a 93R17 FVXP, OD green stock, heavy fluted barrel. It came with the cheapo China scope and bases.
They offer them in .17hmr .22lr and .22wmr at least that is what they have at the store down here.
For some reason the .22's are priced differently.

stillbuster,

you said"Time to find out which load it likes best."

The 17 gr work the best in my rig, the 20 grain do not group as well.

The bolt and trigger job directions can be found step by step with pictures over on rimfire central dot com in the savage stickys. To do them both will take about an hour or so. No special tools needed. I do most of my "polishing" now with wet/dry sandpaper in 800, 1000 and 2000 grit and a thick piece of plate glass. The glass is flat and when the paper stops cutting I throw it away.

I got a chance to shoot a few rounds today in a hurry but it looks like the 17gr Remingtons are going to shoot fairly well. I will try to post some pics when I get a good day to shoot.
I never have liked this scope. I am searching for a scope with low profile target turrets.

I got one of these from Dicks as well. mine likes the 20 gr gamepoints better so far but I've only shot it about 50 time total 25 with the game points and 25 with 17gr ers

I had that problem with my MkII .22.
After much reading I found that it is not that uncommon of a problem where it is one of two things:
1. Magazines- which was my problem. Unless you really know how to adjust magazaines just buy new magazines. Learning to adjust magazines can make you pull your hair out.
2. Bolt guide- is misaligned and making contact with the rear of the cartridge pushing it out. Where you have to loosen it and lign it up properly.
