So i called Sierra today to ask them more info on the 223 95 SMK and the twist rate...not to impressed with the info...I asked at what RPM the bullet explode...the tech said they dont test for that...and that they recommend a 6.5 twist regardless of the Muzzle speed....so here is my issue...I want to shoot the 95 SMK at 3150-3200 for PRS, but with the Recommended 1-6.5 TWIST that bullet will be rotating at almost 360,000. My understanding is that around 350,000 bullets start to explode...I was thinking that a 1-7 or 1-7.5 would work better...that would keep the RPM around 320,000 through a 1-7 and around 300,000 through a 7.5 twist.... Anyone have experience with the 95 SMK around 3150-3200 FPS?

I’m working through some factory Copper Creek 95g SMK’s barrel is 1:6.5 Rock Creek finished at 26”

Dope out to 500 is 2.2 MIL

AVG: 3,017
Min: 3,001
Max: 3,041
SD: 10.2

My plan is to reload to PRS speed limits too

You don’t need that fast if a twist. That recommendation is for 223 stuff. Get an 8 or a 7 if no 8

I ran them to 3130 in a 26” 7t criterion without issue...only about 300 round count now. I was chasing the limit until I started losing primer pockets with cfe 223, and I backed it down to 3020. No stability issues out to 700 with that.

I have a 1:7 Krieger that will pop 95 SMKs around 3050fps, faster is worse. Barrel has less than 100 rounds through it. Good luck at 1:6.5".
