.260 Remington

So a new barrel means a new load for my main match rifle. Went a different direction on some components and got a hammering load for PRS...

Berger 130 AR Hybrid - 0.020
Peterson SRP 260 Brass
Federal 205m
H4350 - 44.3 gr
Avg Velocity - 3000fps
Avg Groups - Sub 1/2 MOA
SD's - 3-5, with some single digit ES's on some strings

What is your overall length? Magazine friendly? Did you have your new barrel specifically throated for the Berger 130s?

Overall length is right at 2.85 +/- a few thousandths. I run Accurate's without binder plates so no mag length issues. I did not have it specifically throated for 130s.

Has anyone tried the new hornady 135 grain a tips ?
I have tried the 120 nosler 140eldm 142 nosler 147 Eldm
The 24in barrel likes the 120 Nosler’s 200 yards 5 shot group can cover with a dime killed coyotes at over 700 yards The 26 in barrel likes the 142 nosler 200 yards is almost a hole in a hole killed ground hogs out to 775 yards I have found out it’s what your rifle likes I have many different bullets and powders changed scopes and and lost sleep till an old sniper told me to quit playing around and go back to what worked I still like to play with the powder and bullets but I found out what he said was true your rifle will let you know I shoot a Remington 700 DBM SS 260 and Remington 700 VLS 260

Found this in a old book. VIht. N 165
47.0 Compressed 2687 mzl vel
45.0. 2568 mzl vel
So tried it out. My results
26 inch. 1-8 twist
46.5 gr. N-165 [Warning some high pressure signs]
140 gr. SMK
Lapua Brass
GM210M Primer
OAL 2.814
Vel. 2811
This load shot great 20 rounds in a dime size hole at 100 yds. Big difference in what the manual said!!!!!!

I just received my first batch of Speer 140gr Gold Dot projectiles. I intend to make them my standard .260 Projectile, in the hope that I can thereby produce an accurate load with effective terminal performance.

I have a lot of projects in progress right now, so this one will go to the back of the line.

The SGD is over 1/4" shorter than the 143 ELD-X it replaces. I think there will be some advantage with that, allowing seating less deep while still permitting easier magazine feeding. I'll be starting with a 2.815" OAL seating depth. I'm not omniscient about such things, so we'll see; but we just won't be doing it this week.

The test rifle will be using a 28", 1:8" barrel, and H-4350 and H-4831SC.

two years later I got to reload 4451 again.. loading 140SMK currently in a tikka 20" barrel with ultra 7 attached

42.3 grains @ 2.815 was a 3/4 inch group at 100. at 300 yards one shot I hit a one inch see through target. yesterday was a very good day at the range

speed
2712
2713
2723
2717
with no pressure signs. I may try to get to 2750, but I am already 4 grains above the manuals MAX load

Id leave it there. You have an 11 es and good grouping. Tikka is normally a slow factory barrel and velocity only changes how much you dial up. Thats way better than my 20 Tikka did when I had one

I would leave it alone, that is good speed out of a 20" suppressed. I was about the same with 44gr of H4350 and the 140 RDF. After over 2000 rounds and the lack of H4350 I shot 4451 and was at 2640 fps with them seated just under mag length and jumping them a mile. They shot good out to 1200 yards, just had to dial a little more.

That’s excellent speed out of a tikka barrel.

I’ve been talking about it but I finally made the switch to 130’s

130 eldm’s @ 2.94
Winchester brass
Fed 210
44 grains of H4350.
2975 fps.

Ugh jealous. I'm running 130 Berger AR Hybrids, 42.7 gr of H4350 and a BR-2 at 2.880 (~30 thou off) and getting 2845. Anything much more than that gives me pressure in Starline brass. Its sub 1/2 moa and is reliable but I would like more speed. I thought 43.7 was the ticket during initial testing but gave me heavy bolt lift in 80 degree temps. This is out of a 24" Proof barrel for my AI.

I found the load on the first page was spot on for me. 139 gr scenar, 47.0 gr superformance, 2.82 oal ( 0.015 off lands). Starline brass, WLP. SD of 4.
26 inch SRS 1-8.5 twist. 100 yd groups hover just below 1/2 moa. No pressure whatsoever.
1. 3004 fps
2. 3005
3. 3012
4. 3008
5. 3006

Well your super lucky then.
Enjoy your 260 magnum.
This is from page #1 of this thread where I started from. Figured I was conservative. And I meant to say it is a 1:8.5 not 1:9.5. My bad.

Just got some 136 scenar l’s to try. Normally I’d use some h4350 but can’t get it, and no RL powders or badger available either. Ive been looking at n160/560, h4831sc, h414. Which of those might be the best, I’d prefer something temp insensitive

If you are looking at the vv powders I’ve been wanting to see some results with the new n555
