Need a bit of guidance with my new 260. I wasn't able to find any info on 123 SMK's with RL-22. Has anyone used this combination before?

Thanks in advance for the help

Re: 260

I think H4350 is what most go with including myself. Just start low with the RL22 and work up like everything else.

Re: 260

Thanks guys. I had looked all thru the reloading section, was just looking for some formal info on RL-22. Received the new 260 and have messed with a 3 different powders none of the loads out of them was I very impressed with. I haven't been able to find much at all in the way of data with 123 SMK's. Think I might just have to go the 139 and 4350 route and start all over.

Appreciate the replies. If you have any other ideas please let me know.

Re: 260

How bout:

139 scenar or 140 Amax
47 grains of H4831SC
CCI BR2
Rem Brass
15 thousandths off tha lands

Re: 260

I have a bunch of 123 smk's that I have been using with varget, got a bunch of that too, been working with 39 grains of that but the velocity is not what I was looking for. I have a few pounds of rl-22 but none of my books list any recipes. I figured that I would get a bit closer to 2880-2900 with the rl-22. I think I may just break down and buy some 139's and either 4350 or 4831. I'm still pretty new to the whole reloading thing

Re: 260

It seems like a mismatch, pairing a lighter bullet with a slower powder. This is not a bad thing, but it generally means you'll run out of case capacity before you reach peak acceptable pressures and velocities. I'd either go with a heavier bullet, or a faster powder (with H-4350 being the slowest I'd use for the 123). Varget may be a bit fast for the .260 and 123's, and 39gr seems to agree with what I'd be considering max. H4350 is OK for .260, with 47-49gr being OK for the 95gr, and 42-44.5 being max with 140's.

Re: 260

Here's a real useful link... this is data for a 120 grain bullet, so you can start a little low and work up..

http://www.stevespages.com/264_12_120.html

I tend to like 4064 and powders in that burn range for the 120 to 129 bullets...

you can also call Sierra at 1 800. 223. 8799

If you are looking for max velocity, try some RL 17... start low with 4350 load data and then work up...I am experiencing some real good accuracy out of my rifle...using 120 grain Match bullets..

Re: 260

I personally feel that H4350, and the 120's, were made for each other in the .260 Remington.

I got poor velocities with RL-19 and 120 weight projectiles (full case capacities were easily reached), and I suspect you may see the same.

Re: 260

Give Chad a call at "Custom Reloads of Dallas", He really knows his stuff. He will give you good advice but can also do load development for you.
He set me up at 47.5 gr. of 4831SC
WW 7-08 brass
CCI BR2 primers
140 VLD bergers
2800fps
0.008 off the lands
slightly compressed load ( a little crunch)

Re: 260

I found the best was with H-4350 also. I use 45 grains with moly plated 123's at 2970 in a 26" VLS. H-4831 and R-22 ran outta room before acceptable velocities could be reached. Nosler shows a max of 46 grains with the 140's, so you could safely start there.

Re: 260

On a whim, I'm pairing some leftover 95gr V-Max and an unused coupla cans of IMR-4895, arbitrarily loaded about 1/2-1gr below max. Seems like an appropriate combo. For varmints, should be close enough.
