300 PRC update

I haven’t seen one in stock anywhere! They were also going for way over msrp last I checked used…. Got any leads?!
Honestly I just happened to stumble across the new Lite version the other day. It was the only one they had but maybe other shops be getting them soon...?

Hopefully! I’ve been keeping my eye out bc I came to the same conclusion as others here w regard to getting the LR over the V3…. Though I may not have a choice…

View attachment 7896027Silly question for folks…. I have a Bergara 26” HMR and I’m developing a few hand loads for it. I normally use my magnetospeed Sporter w my 6.5 cm and I’m trying the same here. My issue however is that I’m running a Area 419 muzzle brake and the damn think doesn’t align properly from the barrel mounted position. I’ve seen folks w suppressors mount from there but never from a brake….. anyone experience w this before I go and ruin my magnetospeed? (I’ve also heard that the V3 is longer so I may go that route too…). Pic to show what I’m thinking:
Look at the MK Machining and Wiser adapters for the MS Sporter models to get it off the barrel.

Anyone hearing any rumblings on when some Berger 215 or 220's are supposed to start showing back up in stock? I've shot some 245gr EOL's but want to try the 215's to see if they'll work better with my 24" barrel and H1000.

Would love to know the same….. I have recently gotten 208 long range hybrids recently… and 245 EOLs…. But not 220s.

Here is mine with 245s. 28" adg and N565.

So I was looking in vein for a Labradar today when it dawned on me…. Are there any mCU / RasPi based Doppler radar sensors on the market and if so could one build their own “lab radar” from a raspberrypi? I’ve built GPS / Sat comm micro computers for my trucks and off roading so I figured why not apply my dumb useless need to build shiiiit here!? So I found this: https://anteral.com/radar/raspberry-pi/

Will do a little reading before buying and building (advice from my wife due to the amount of random crap I have in the workshop) but will keep folks posted..

We have had Berger 220 on backorder for a year plus now. Hopefully we get the backorder this year.

Random question for the peanut gallery here since im not sure where to put it…. I’ll be in the UK in a few weeks and I’ve noticed that Lapua brass for 300 PRC is much easier to come by there… spoke w a shop to potentially pick some up in person. Has anyone ever brought brass ONLY through US customs?

Hey y’all,
I’m loading up some new loads for my 300 PRC. I’ve tested loads up to 78.5 grains of Ramshot Mag w 225 ELD-m. I have a dumb question. I’m going to load 250 a-tips here shortly and I was wondering…. Is it ok to load to that same charge…? Or does the increase in mass of the bullet translate into potential higher pressures due to its mass and thus increased momentum? Thanks!

Just in case you are actually that slow, No is not ok. If this is a joke, try harder. Google is your friend.

You will want to decrease your loads... 25 grain increase is a lot! A whole new work up is needed

Do not use the same loads with the 250s. You have a smaller max load with the heavier bullets. There is load information on Hornady's site for a few powders. You can get an idea of where to start by extrapolating lower loads to get a starting point, then work up as you would with any new load.

Curious what powder funnel is preferred for 300PRC?

I've been using a hornady plastic funnel for years and I'm noticing it's hitting the shoulder of the 300PRC case which allows kernels of powder to hit the case mouth and drop out when I lift the funnel. Looking for something that seals better on the 300PRC case...... wonder if this might be an area I could look at to improve my ES/SD.....

Give Area 419 a look.

Has anyone tried running the newer redesigned Sierra Matchkings at 200gr? They claim a BC of .717 and figuring you could safely get these guys up to the 3k ft/s barrier at the muzzle, they may be an interesting choice for mid to longer range…?

Some recent 300 PRC numbers RL26 vs. N565 and N568

Weapon:
Barrett Mk22 - 300 PRC proof CF 1:8 26". I got about 230rds fired.

My goto load is 76gr RL26, 230 Atip - doing 2900 Fps. Been looking to qualify additional powders due to the scarcity of RL 26. I chose N565 and N568. In addition, not too keen on the 85%ish fill ratio with RL26.

N565 - 76gr = 2800(not what I was expecting based on reading that RL26 is close to N565. 100 fps difference for the same powder charge does not seem close to me? I am going to increase the charge a little since I am did not see any pressure signs

N568 - 82gr =2875fps. Better. I assess this as a 100% fill. Going to try for some groups next range visit

other testing

RL26/ Berger 208 LRHT - 79.1gr of RL26 - 3100 fps - I don't feel like pushing this load any further

Did you record ES with any of these loads?

I was just doing 10 shot pressure ladders with N565/568...should have mentioned. The two charges, H565 - 76gr and H568 - 82gr were the max charge of the 10rds fired. Neither charge showed any pressure signs. However, the N568 was about 100% fill.

My RL26/230 Atip load has ~10ish SD, not sure on the ES(will check). I am having a hard time achieving low(single digit) SDs with 300 PRC so far. However, the groups are outstanding at .2-.400 size.

Ok just curious. I use N570 with a 300 Norma and I'll be testing a 300 PRC soon with N568 so we'll see how things turn out.

What is a good starting point for 300NM with N570. I plan to start loading 300NM shortly with the barrel the Mk22 came with.

GRT says it is getting quote hot, case heads are showing me no pressure. Row 1 Case 1 is 77gr, Row 2 Case 5 is 81.5gr. Virgin Lapua brass with a .307 mandrel. charges done on a CM lite. Barrel is a 24" K&P done by LRI.

Exactly, those bullets and powder take up more space than what he’s playing with so I’d say he can’t be at 100% fill.
What kind of velocity you getting?

I'm Having a 30" 300 PRC barrel custom chambered and trying to decide on the throat /free bore.
I'm chambering 250A-tips and am in between 3.850" and 3.900"(undecided).
The bbl is made with the new(ish) MOD400 steel, so longer than normal jump shouldn't erode as fast should I choose to.
The unicorn dust I have saved are Retumbo, 8133, N570, N568, US869, and 7828(long & short), RL-33, and RL-26
To be clear; I'm not interested in SAAMI spec and I only single feed.
Please note: Only interested in Horny 250 A-tips and COAL in relation to powder and MV
Thank you for your consideration.

Looking for input from people who have made the switch from ADG to Lapua. I made the switch and have seen significantly better seating force consistency, but my go-to velocities in ADG and previously RWS, are not giving me the 6-7 SDs I enjoyed previously - now, more in the ~10 range.

For anyone who has made the switch, have you seen the same or no?

The other thing I did today at the range was play with my seating depth on my 230 Bergers. I had been in the .025 area, but I was not happy with groups. I took my arbor press/seating die out to the range and ran 3-shot groups from .009" and up at .003" increments. It was mediocre or worse until I got to .036" and .039" - both yielded less than .5 MOA, followed by six shots of validation.

I had six rounds left so, set those to .039" and fired them off at the range's 850 yard target. Group size held up at range...

Now, if I can just get the SDs back down to where they should be...

Would love to hear from others that have made the switch as well, I'm seriously thinking about it..... now that I've got a force gauge for my arbor press I'm shocked with the variance in seating pressure for with my ADG brass even though things feel relatively the same when seating rounds. The gauge allows me to sort my rounds based on seating force. Doing so has allowed me to reduce my SD within the set of rounds similar in seating force but I'd like to get more consistency across all of the rounds I load and not have to sort based on seating pressure. I'm thinking Lapua might provide the additional consistency needed to make this happen.

Wish I could help you out with your actual question but I think I'll be following you on the same road shortly.

An update on barrel life. I have another new barrel ready to install on my 300PRC. I've been pulling barrels at just over 1200 rounds and turning them into practice barrels. My current barrel is in mid season and I haven't had time to go to the local range and break in a new one. Yesterday I was shooting 1 mile benchrest and the conditions were absolutely crap. Rain storms, fog rolling across the field and removing all visibility of targets. Delays, delays delays. Switchy winds. Variance in lighting conditions....but no mirage.

The below target in one mile bench rest was shot at just over 1400 rounds on the barrel. Bartlein NON MODBB 1-9tw 29.5", Lapua brass 3x, RL-26, Fed215M, Berger 245EOL. Any day at 1 mile benchrest with all 5 on is a good day...no matter what the Internet tells you.

What is the best 300prc brass? I have some Lapua, but was wondering if I should try some ADG?

Lapua gives superior seating force consistency. After finally getting my SDs to calm down (I think my issues were due to humidity variations), my test from today yielded slightly better SDs with Lapua than I was getting with ADG.

Beautiful node at the beginning, those first 5 rounds were within 1/2" of each other.
No pressure signs at 81.9, will continue ladder test next range trip to try and find higher node and max charge.

Also had 5 rounds of 78.0 grs N565 with Berger 230 HT leftover and they shot .63moa @ 2778, see picture.

Decent velocity with the Berger 245 and N568. I will be testing the 212 ELD-X and 225 ELD-M with N568 in a couple weeks.
