This combination shot really well in my rifle.

The load is:

Caliber: .300 Winchester Magnum
Match prep. WWC match case 2.615"
Federal Match large rifle primer 210M
208 grain Hornady A-Max
80 grains Retumbo
C.O.L. 3.62"

I was getting 3,000 fps!! with my 26" barrel Remington 700 PSS with NO signs of over pressure. Saturday I shot with Sonic Sammy @ 1k yards and I only needed 21.5 MOA elevation to get there. I zeroed my gun to that load, made some dope and had a blast!

This picture has hits on it from my rifle and a .223 AR15 @ 1k yards. My hits are the two on the upper left of the orange square and two to the left of the square. I had two fliers that are above and below the orange square. Those other hits are Sonic Sammy with his .223, the orange square is 10"x10"

@ 100 meters I was consistently shooting .5 MOA and zeroed the gun to that distance. With this load just using MIL dots I can reach out to 800-900 meters. The MIL hold for 900 meters is 5.3

I do want to mention I went to BS with the gunsmith Saturday and I was telling him about the new load and he mentioned that H-1000 may not get as good of a velocity but it will be more consistant over a wider range of tempratures. He said retumbo is kinda finnikey pressure wise. His example was he knew a guy who had a great load and added another grain to it, to see what it would do and it destroyed the bold face!! So I'll keep mine @ 80 maybe even de-tune it a bit to be safe.

But 3,000 fps with a 208 in a .300 WM!!! I LOVE IT!!

P.S. this load is a little hard on steel plates within 500 meters.

I tried Retumbo in the past for my 300 WM using the 208 AMAX. Found that the velocity is a bit slower than RL22. Found my load with RL22, and have been very happy with it.

Re: .300 WM/Retumbo/208 A-Max Anyone else use Retumbo?

I also used Retumbo with the 210 VLD, & A-Max, but switched to H-1000 because of temp issues. Retumbo also consistently smoked my case necks, & the H-1000 doesn't. Same velocity too. Both were able to shoot @ .3 MOA.

Well sounds like Retumbo is now where near as cool as I though. I dont really want to push this load any harder even though I'm not having any over pressure signs. Sure shoots nice in my rifle though!

I'm going to switch gears after this week and get stuff together for my new rifle.

I have a bunch of goodies on the way from cabelas and midwayusa!!

Man, I can't win for losing. I found RL22 to be very temp sensitive, and I heard Retumbo was less so, so I was getting ready to try it. Of course, the one powder I don't have is H1000.

Just my 2 cents ..... Burn rate wise... H1000 or r22 is better generally speaking for the 208. But, if you've got it shooting , WHY THE HELL NOT!!!
As far as the guy that destroyed his bolt face, my guess would be he was running a hot load to begin with and possibly switched brass, maybe added a bit more than a grain ??
I can tell you from personal experience , I run 76.3 grains with a 230 Berger OTM. At 36 degrees I was at 2881 w/ a magnetospeed v2. At 88 degrees I was at 2900. So it's pretty damned stable. I would say that h1000 with the 215's gives me 3035 fps and temp stability is incredible. Out to 1,000 yards, no need in factoring in fps/degree UNLESS it drops below 30 F*. That seems to be the tipping point for ALL the Extreme powders from Hodgdon
