.300wm - .300wsm

Great, thank you for the info. That looks very encouraging.

Yes sir,

I am getting 212 eldx at 2875 fps and 208 ELDM at 2930 fps out of my 22” 300wsm with RL-26. The 208s shot just slightly better so I will likley be going that route.

I had 5 boxes of Hornady 225gr ELD M projectiles and I noticed the bullets in 1 of the 5 boxes were noticeably different. Looking at the lot numbers on the 5 boxes, the oldest is the different one.

Ogive, boat tail length, boattail taper and tip material are all different. I loaded a few and had to adjust seating depth until the same CBTO was achieved. The resulting COAL was visibly different I'll shoot them at short range < 350 yards as I'm sure the visible differences would yield practical B.C. and trajectory differences at long range. They obviously changed the design at some point. As sensitive to theses bullets are to jump distance (for my rifle anyway), I hope they still shoot ok at the same CBTO. Pisses me off as they aren't cheap and I don't appreciate the variability.

Could u post a pic of both projectiles side by side so we can see the shank length?

Just picked up a bergara hmr 300wm, wondering if anyone has been reloading for it, if so what loads work good. Looking to take it past 1000 once I get a load worked up
Thanks
Has you got a load developed? I am working with that rifle as well. I am working with H1000 180 grain AB.

300 win mag. Nosler brass. 215 Berger hybrids. 77.9 gr h1000. Cci 250 primers. 2943 fps. Sd of 4.2. 28 inch bartlein 10 twist. No pressure and shoots bugholes.

Anybody have data on 20” 10 twist 300wm and 155g hybrids? I have 100 to test in a custom hunting rifle but I’m not real sure what powder would be best. Thinking H4831sc or possibly H4350. I have most powders in inventory, but prefer extreme powders.

I’m running out of barrel length quickly using 215g Hybrids and H1000 flying around 2660-2700fps.

Hey guys. Just bought a new Winchester XPR 300 WM and doesn't look like I'll be able to load over SAAMI length due to a short magazine. Seems to be the same with my buddy's Browning 300 WM.

Anyway, looking for a place to start load development. This will be an elk rifle so looking to load 190-210 grain Noslers or Hornady ELD-X bullets. I'd like to stick with a temperature stable powder if possible.

Any input would be appreciated.

FWIW, been working up loads for a 300 Win Mag. I know every rifle is different. Mine loves RL 23 with the 190 Berger. I am getting very low SDs with RL 23 using bullets in the 178-190 grain weights. Much better than H 1000.

I haven't seen anything in this thread about anyone using the 225 eld's for 300WM. Anybody have any experience with these? I like heavies in most of the calibers I shoot and am thinking of trying these. I know they won't be the fastest load for this caliber, but sure ought'a carry some serious energy quite a distance.

I have 1500 ELDM 225s down the pipe in my Benchmark 9.5 tw 28" tube. .015" jump with 74.1-74.5gr H1k depending on lot. 2800fps.
They put 1hole groups @ 100 & under favorable conditions I've gone 7/10 rnds at a mile with them.

Thanks. I have a new RPR that I have yet to put any rounds through. I'm planning on testing 190 gr thru 225 gr rds to see if it prefers any of those, but I have high hopes for the 225 eldm's. I was always a fan of the a-max's in some other rifles, and it's my understanding that the eldm's are an improvement on those. Fingers crossed.

Going to place a powder order today. Have been using H1000 in my 300. Any other suggestions as to what to grab?

I recently bought a 300 WM and finally found a load it really likes. Tried H4350, H4831SC, and H1000 with 180 grain Accubonds. H1000 turned out to be the best by far.

78.3 grains gets 3000 fps with an ES of 4, an SD of 2, and 0.6" groups.

I was hoping to get some intel on 300WM with Hornady 180gr SST and Reloader 17. I don't shoot 300WM, but my dad got a new rifle and ammo is hard to come by. I was able to source brass and I have Reloader 17, primers and bought the SSTs to load him up some rounds.

I will not have the luxury of shooting ladder tests and such....... so I was hoping someone would have an idea what to load.

Hornady's manual shows a starting point of 57.8 and max at 68.4.

Bolt or gas? Magazine fed? If I recall correctly, the sst has a cannelure so you may want to read Sierra's suggestions on what to do with this type of bullet and call their techs. As I read it, they are against the crimp and seem to favor neck tension. The magazine will dictate the max col. A lot of times the listed col's are way short depending on magazine, bullet, and the rifle itself. Load info. is also on the low side in many cases............think lawyers.

I know you're looking for reload info, but I thought I would mention this first. HTH.

Crimping is something I will stay away from, along with cannelure style bullets.

It would be super if I could find any of the components to try some of these recipes, ahh the old days...

Anyone have any experience with the Berger 208 hybrid in 300 WSM?
I'm about to start a load workup for 300 WSM on the 208 Berger Hybrid with H4831SC. Gonna start at 63gr and work up to 65 or 65.5 grains. Probably in .5 grain increments. Then I'll fine tune from there. I'm guessing I'll be at it for the next 6 weeks or so. I have all the components on hand as well as everything needed to do a 185 Juggernaut work up at the same time. Already shoot the 215 Hybrid with great results using the H4831SC with ½ MOA out to 600 yards. Rifle is Savage 26" Model 12 BVSS.

anyone using 208 a-max with RL-22 in the 300wsm? been thinking about trying this but i don't have a powder charge to start with. man i need to pick up quick load one of these days

I use 72gr RL22 with 208 amax, be careful to work up

Well thank god for that. Been waiting here watching the screen for just over 13 years for someone to get back to me. I mean, I shot out the barrels on my Win Mags years ago, and switched to different cartridges when I rebarreled, but man is that a load off my mind.

:ROFLMAO:

Needing a good recipe for PP 4000 MR and Sierra 190 MK/195 TMK in 300WM... I'm running a 24" factory tube with 1:10 5R twist. I have my choice of WW, Fed, or Hornady brass... And CCI 250, Rem 9.5M, Fed 215 primers.

Published burn rates for 4000 MR vary so widely I'm having a hard time nailing down a starting load based on a "close to this powder" burn rate.

QL and a decent chrony are in the works.

If anyone can PM me with a little advice I'd sure appreciate it.

Mike

Sharing my setup:

w/ Dead Air brake and running a Sandman L on it
Triggertech Primary trigger set at 1 lb
Grayboe Adjustable Renegade Stock
Topped w/ Nightforce ATACR 5-25x 56 Mil XT reticle

And here is it's favorite load:
Lapua 220 Scenar L’s with 71.8 grs. of H4831 and Winchester WLRM primers.
Set up .015 off the lands.
If I do my job it’s 1/2 moa all day long. Also it’s running just about 2805 feet per second with this load.

I'm I going too fast?

Haven't shot my 300WM in at least 3-years. 500+ rounds on the barrel.

Beanland built using a Schneider M40 contour 10-twist at 26"

Was shooting 73.0-gr of H1000 @ 2860-fps. 215-gr Hybrids. Federal 210M primers, in Virgin RWS brass. Primers where starting to get slightly flat, but nothing serious. Rifle hammered with this load, crazy accurate, with single digit ES/SD.

Now look what I have with 72.7-gr of the same lot of powder and bullets, but now with the same brass, but once fired.

What chronograph were you using before? I had a chrony and paired it up with my magnetospeed. With the chrony 10'-0" from the muzzle it averaged 65fps slower than the magnetospeed attached to the barrel. The chrony was within a couple fps from that average but nothing substantial showing me it was way out of wack.

Worked this one up last weekend and shot it today. Charges are straight out of the Hornady 10th edition for their 300WM/190 gr. But I switched up the components, brass, etc... As always, your mileage may vary so start at the bottom and work up...

300 Win Mag 24" x 1:10 barrel
Sierra 190 gr MK
Winchester Brass, Federal 215M
Alliant Power Pro 4000 MR
CBTO= 2.900" (.022 jump to lands)
COAL= 3.500"

Started at 61.3 gr and stopped at max listed charge of 72.1 gr. per the book.

Best load was MAX (72.1 gr.) ES was 14, SD was 6, with avg velocity of 2978. The previous charge (69.9 gr) produced a tighter group but that might have been my recoil management, or lack of it.

No visible signs of pressure (cratered/flattened primers, heavy bolt lift, etc...) even at max listed charge. Might be able to take this one a bit further.

Hornady has a 250 Atip in .30 cal. I think the G1 is like .878 which is insane. The OAL of the projectile is 1.858" which is RIDICULOUS. Gonna need a 1:8.5 at the minimum to get that one stable down range i would imagine. There is a 230 atip also which is 1.760" and has a bc of .823 which is WAY over the Berger 230 Otm which is .710 and the 230 Hybrid which is (according to Litz) is .717
