6.5 Addiction (Swedemoor)

Anyone running extended AW mags with any luck? If so what extension/spring combination are you using?

I tried one AW and it didn't want to run, you might have better luck than me tho. The ARC mags with an area 419 mag extension would be the direction I would go if I wanted a double stack type mag.

We just tested the American Rifle Company Double Stack mags and they ran flawless from the start with 10 rounds of 6.5x55 GWI through our Atlas Tactical and Kodiak Tactical actions. We are running the Berger 130 Hybrids at 3090 out of a 24" barrel suppressed and a 2.92" OAL and 2963 from a 20" Suppressed barrel as well. Barrel life has been 3000+, pulled my last one at 3650 rounds because I was scared it would burn out at a match.

Thanks for the info Ian, Have you guys tried running the baseplates? Also are you running Reloader powder? I'm really liking those 130 Hybrids in my 20" Tikka, three shots this season netted two elk and a deer.

So, the tikka guys running the 6.5A...

My CTR is a 6.5CM in a MPA chassis and ARC mags. With the short action bolt stop in my tikka, should I have any issues running the optimum OAL, or will I need to change out the bolt stop to a LA bolt stop??

I have not yet tried the baseplates, as I prefer to just run ten in my magazine. We are using 48.5 grains of H4350 with a Winchester primer. H4350 is very stable through temperature and humidity changes, so this works best for us as we are at 756 feet above sea level and most of our matches are over 3000 feet. Those 130's are solid, I'm running 6.7 MILs to a grand.

Might have to try one of these for my Addiction. Can only get 8 in an Alpha mag

You are going to be limited by your mag length rather than your action length. If you are running the ARC mags you are stuck with the short action. As a Tikka hunting setup a guy would be better off sticking with the standard Tikka mags and going to a long action IMO; it's the same action just longer bolt travel. Mountain Tactical is making some pretty sweet looking billet mags for the non CTR tikka action.

So, I am having an odd issue in that my fireforming is going great. Beautiful shoulders, no casehead separation, but my seater die will not seat the bullet deeply enough to get me to the correct OAL. I can't get inside an ARC magazine with everything totally bottomed out. Anybody else have this issue?

I’m looking at rechambering a rifle to 6.5 addiction. Right now I shoot 147 elds in my 6.5x47 and 6.5 Creedmoor rifles. What velocity would be likely with a 147 in a 24” barrel from the addiction? For quickload modeling, any suggestions on what I should use and what changes I need to make?

You were getting 3K+ with H4350?

Using R26, lapua brass, and 130 hybrid would 3100 be reasonable expectation from a 22 inch PVA barrel? running this hard is 2,500 rounds a reasonable expectation?
Those numbers are optimistic but possible depending on the barrel. You should get to 3100 without too much trouble, but you’ll probably lose some velocity after 1k to 1500.
I’d plan on 3050 for 1800-2200 rnds

Got behind on projects but should have some more info on the 150’s this next week. They are 2.99 to the lands so should work ok with a bit of a jump. I loaded one bullet at mag length and it was right at 2800 with a 47gr RL26 fireforming load.

I have a rem 700LA in 270win that I've never been completely satisfied with its accuracy with the heavier bullets and was considering having it rebarreled to 260 but throated to run the 140 plus grain bullets long to maximize case capacity. It would be a sporter weight rifle for hunting and was curious if anyone thinks the 6.5x55 would be a better option for this.

Where did people buy dies from?

JBryd has a set of whidden dies and a good deal on brass in the for sale section...last posted on Mon.....I just got brass from him good to go...

Any update for us? Thanks!
Finally got to play with some loads. We had an ELR challenge at the match this last weekend so I did a quick ladder from 49.4-51.8 gr RL26 in .4 increments. Speed was from 2999 to 3056. and the last three shots went into a nice little group. Settled on 50.5 loaded .020 off the lands. You can load 2-3 in a mag at this length but then they stick. For a true mag length you'd have to load 15-20 Thou shorter. This load shot between 3028-3046 and was just under .5moa.
The winds were 12-18 and switchy and but was able to get 3/6 on the plate at 1540 which was good enough to beat all the Lapuas and Cheytacs. Then just for fun decided to try the 2026yd and got lucky enough to get a first and third round impact. I'm pretty sold on the 150's at this point.

The 6.5 Addiction has intrigued me for quite some time and I am very close to placing an order for a PVA Tikka pre-fit barrel. Whats been stopping me is the 6.5 PRC. Yes, I know that it requires a larger bolt face, but with the support of Hornandy behind it do any of you think that the 6.5 Addiction will lose what little steam it has left in terms of popularity?

If the 6.5 PRC had better brass offerings, and it most likely will very soon, I will be going with that.

I’m waiting on a PVA prefit , have dies and brass, waiting go/no-go gauges. I think (hope) the addiction will remain an attractive alternative for people like myself who want to switch barrels with out changing bolts. 308/6.5 CM/6.5A for different seasons of the year. Once you have dies and go/no go gauges you are all set since brass is easily made from 6.5x55. Seemed like a low risk choice, hope I’m right.

This has been my exact train of thought. As much as I would like to have a three separate rifles in three different calibers it's more practical to just switch barrels.

I have a PVA prefit for my Tikka in 6CM and it's a hammer. Having just drawn a Deer tag it would be convenient to switch my current setup to 6.5A for the increased downrange energy and be ready for hunting season.

For a switchbarrel, especially a Tikka, the Addiction is the way to go. PRC seems to be a good alternative if you want a factory offering. Very affordable Lapua brass is the best attribute of the 6.5A. I have up to 7 firings on some cases. If you want to shoot the 147-155 class of bullets in a short action the PRC has an edge in that it’s a shorter cartridge. I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

A big thanks to MTSLW. I have a new (and my first) custom rifle in the works and this thread has inspired me to run a second barrel in 6.5 Addiction. I now have all the reloading components (reamer and die above, Lapua brass, Berger 130 gr AR H and 140 gr H and 150 gr SMK) and if i can just get the action and stock into Australia, I will get the rifle built. The other barrel will be chambered in 300 Norma Mag Improved (35 degree shoulder). I can't wait.

I have a new Tikka T3x in 6.5x55 - any reason to NOT punch it out to Addiction?
If you aren't shooting past 400 it's probably not worth it, other than that I'd say go for it! I'm curious if someone did a straight Ackley chamber with a short freebore if the performance would be similar to the addiction. AI dies would be a lot easier to source!

Bumping this thread. How are these things running now days?

Have a brand new Tikka T3 short action that I need something to do with.

Was thinking 28” barrel, suppressed, with 150 SMKs, feeding from Accurate Mags with no binder plate (2.975”).

What say you?
