6.5 Creedmoor

Finally was able to load up some RL16.
Rifle is AIAX-SA 24" 6.5CM
140gr ELD-M
Winchester LRP
1X Fires Hornady Brass (from 2 diff rifles)
FL bushing sized 0.288 neck (but I used carbide expander, so kinda ruins the 0.288 neck tension)
60-70°F
~2800ft Altitude
Don't have DA or Atmospheric Pressure.
A few ejector marks but nothing extreme. Primers a little flattened.

OK sounds good. I plan to do some coyote and small varmint so I want the speed. I assume I should be safe starting at 42gr? Ill be full length sizing norma brass and trying cci250, winchester LRM, and rem 9 1/2m primers.

Additionally anyone have a load for the Berger 130gr VLD hunting and h4350? Looking at them for a game round and have 300 to mess with.

42 would be safe to start. The 130 I have used was the berger ar hybrid but the vld should be nearly the same. My load was 43.1 and a know a few others are using 43.3

ES and SD were much more consistent, i'm sure the BR2's helped. With Norma brass and WLRP it was better than Hornady and WLRP, but Norma and BR2 combination seemed most consistent.

Next batch I'll check out 42.2-42.6gr. Hopefully my AMP annealer will ship soon (hopefully in by June). hope it'll help bring my ES/SD down with more consistent neck tension.

Yeah I loaded up some of the Varget/121 Flatlines in Lapua brass and got 3152fps average on a 90* day with a DA somewhere near 4000'. That gets me a bullet that is still supersonic near 2000yds. Too expensive for my blood to shoot all the time, but great for those 1300yd PRS shots.

Alright, I'm new at this so if I need to post this somewhere else, please let me know.

My two boys want to get into PRS style shooting. We have a stock RPR and I'm looking for a load with Hornady 140 ELD-M. I have made many notes after looking through all 18 pages of this thread, so I have some ideas. I'd like to see what other RPR shooters are using with success. I'm not looking for a super hot load, just something proven in an RPR that is accurate and consistant. I have a MagnetoSpeed and all the usual reloading tools. Please advise. Thanks!

@3greatkids
41.5 grains of H4350 under a 140 eld-m will replicate Hornady and was the load printed on the factory ammo boxes a few years ago. +/- that a couple tenths and go with what groups best. The next accuracy node tends to be in the 42.5-42.8 range. If you are unable to measure you bullet jump 2.800-2.810 is typical of factory lengths.

RL-16 is another good powder to use and the nodes tend to be nearly the same charge weights as H4350

I have an RPR. It doesn’t have the factory barrel anymore. I’ve been through 2 different lots of H4350 this year and one was substantially slower than the other so the powder charges listed here may vary drastically from what you find. I went from 42.3gr with one lot to 43.2gr with the next lot just to get the same velocity. Basically you’re looking for between 2700-2750fps with the ELd’s. Start .020 off of the lands. Somewhere between 40-42.5gr of H4350 will get you there.

Prior to wearing .30 off my lands I was using 41.2 grains of imr 4451 and getting 2812 FPS with an sd of 9 and half moa.

That's pretty slow, esp for a 26" barrel. I would bump your powder up. When I used 4451 for a short time, 42-42.4 was my accuracy node and it was around 2600fps in a factory 20" Tikka barrel. Same brass, same bullet.

I’ve shot all the way up to 43 grains and couldn’t find a good node for it. At this point I’ll take the accuracy over the speed.

I gotcha!

If you ever see it on the shelf, do not hesitate to buy RL16. Faster, accurate, and temp insensitive. I don't even look for H4350 anymore.

I plan to pretty soon to switch to Lapua brass and varget using Berger 130 ar hybrids. I’m hoping for better speeds. I’ve heard that varget is pretty forgiving guess I’ll see how true that is

Give Reloader 16 a try if youre looking for more speed. Im using 42.4gr with 147 ELD and getting 2650 out of a 20" Tikka CTR (Lapua brass)

+2 on this load (42.4). Same one I'm using, getting 2680 with the 140's (Suppressed) outta the 20" barrel CTR.

Its funny, 42.3 and 42.5 also shot really well. Hardly any change in velocity, SD around 5-7 1/2" groups, then 42.7 went to shit, with some pressure signs. I think we got a good solid node there. Better than what I expected from the tiny little Tikka barrel.

OK, with a Tikka T3x CTR 24" with brake (sorry don't remember the brand) in a KRG Bravo chassis. New Lapua brass trimmed to length with a Giraud, sorted and weighed, Winchester small rifle primer. Redding competition bushing die, 2.80 OAl, .05 jump.

121g Flatline & Varget powder. 7 shot strings, throwing out high & low, averaging the other 5. 6/2/18, 86*, 17% RH, 3647' DA.

42.8g 3166fps 22fps SD
42.9g 3178fps 11fps SD
43.0g 3180fps 10fps SD

No signs of overpressure.

IMO, one of the great things about 6.5 Creedmoor is that you can get some serious range with only 27xxfps. With 45.2g of 4831sc, and 142g SMK's my rounds are still supersonic at 1300yds, which is more than enough for 99% of my shooting. BUT, the flatlines are still SS at 1950yds, so if I have a real long range target I have them for that use. Once I get possession of my suppressor, I'll run the numbers again.

Having good results with RL26.
Anybody using it? Seems like it was getting pretty popular but most recipes I've seen lately on this thread are for RL16 or 17.

I'm in the process of building my 6.5 Creedmoor and I have a few boxes of their 120gr AMAX factory loads, but once those are gone it to the table. I've seen a few loads on here, but they are spread out all over the place. Figured we need a spot for all of them to go. Bullets I'm interested in using are: 130/140 Berger VLD, 120/140 AMAX, 123/139 Scenars, 142 SMK, and 142 Matrix. Haven't decided powder yet, but mostly will go wth H4831sc or H4350.
I never like 4831 in ths 6.5 Creed. Always did well with 4451 and Reloder 16. N550 and 140 did well too - but for me 4831sc worked better in 6x47 Lapua and 6 creed. Always CCI 450 got best groups too for me. I would usually cut barrels to 21.5" - I read an article about some guys shooting in a warehouse - you have probably seen it as it was a famous article - and one big conclusion was barrel length. The common denominator determined in a plethora accurate rifles as a barrel length of 21.5". So far I have built a 6mm BR Norma, .308, .223 Wylde, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6 and 6.5x47 Lapua, all with 21.5" barrels. I do shoot a couple of 300wm at 26 and 28" - to good effect but the shorter barrel length seems to be the sweet spot between rigidity and horsepower.

Would you be able to link the article on barrel length and this warehouse shoot? You have peaked my interest.

130g Norma golden bullet with Norma MRP

bullet/ weight/type 130g Norma golden bullet
powder - Norma MRP
COL 2.815
case - Lapua and Winchester
charge weight 48.4 lapua, 48.5 wincheseter
primer CCI-200
velocity 2975
barrel make, twist , length - factory RPR barrel, 1-8 twist, 24"
round count on barrel - 300 +-

Great flat shooting bullet, worked up from 44.2-49.2 with no more pressure signs than measured with factory winchester and Prime ammo
, .5" groups or better for the entire ladder, settled on 48.5, 48.4 as it gave a good combo of accuracy and velocity in my rifle. Easy workup.

Any recommendations for a gas gun load with the 130 eld-m, preferably with h4350. This is an 18”, rifle length +2”.

@Redleg06

Do you think that the Norma MRP powder is what is used in the Prime Ammo 6.5 CM?

I know it is Norma Brass, and the Norma Golden Target 130g bullet.... but I can never find/figure out what the powder is.....

Which Powder are you using? 204 or 219? Is it readily available?

I don't know, but I do have a few boxes of Prime ammo. I could pull one down and see what it looks like and weigh the Prime chage, but that's nothing definitive. It will have to wait though, I'm downrange for the next few months.

I picked up the MRP due to my Quickload results and got lucky that my rifle liked it. I also run it in my 22 Creed and I'm getting 3500 fps with 80g bullets, so the powder seems to like this size case.

I did some ladder testing this weekend with Lapua Brass this weekend!

Environmental Conditions
Temp 80
wind 10-12mph - 1:00

Rifle Specs
Action: Trued and BP R700 - no bushing on firing pin
Barrel: Krieger 24" Rem Varmint
Stock: Manners T6A
Suppressor: TBAC Ultra 7 in .30cal.

Target: 300y

Chronograph: LabRadar

Load Data
Powder: 41.0 - 45.0 H4350
Primer: CCI 400
Brass: Lapua
Bullet: 130gn Target Hybrid AR

The winning load was:
44.9gn H4350
.03 Jump
Average Velocity 2986fps
SD: 6

There is the faintest sign of the extractor mark but there was no sticky bolt lift or other signs of over pressure. Little bit of primer back flow on all spent primers. I'm going to roll with it for now. I had another node around the 2900fps mark so I might back down to that when it gets to 100 degrees in Texas. Happy to add more upon request.

I find this interesting due to this load and velocity being nearly identical to the load a .260 Rem I had preferred. Must be a common accuracy node with 130s in the 2900s.

+2 on this load (42.4). Same one I'm using, getting 2680 with the 140's (Suppressed) outta the 20" barrel CTR.
I’m getting 2769 with 40.6 grns RX 16 in Starline brass, FGM210M with Hornady 140 HPBT out of a 25.5 inch Shilen. I did a work up today with Lapua brass and started getting cratering at 41.2 with Berger Hybrid 140’s seated 50 thou out. The 40.6 Load shoots bug holes. The 41.2 was nice also.

43.2 H4350, 143gr EldX, CCI BR2, 1x Hornady brass, 24" heavy savage barrel. New to reloading. Ran the ladder test from 41.3-43.5, top of the node and tightest looking group was at 43.2, its a factory barrel. the group was .6. I ran a ladder test with reloader 17 too with similar results. Wishing the groups were a little tighter so Im going to test something near the hornady hunter percision factory ammo load which is 40.7-41.0grs. I have shot .25-3ish moa groups with that ammo. Anyone else on here using the savage 10T with a similar formula?
