6mm BR

Have you trimmed brass at all? Sounds like the case mouth could be hitting end of chamber upon ignition. 100fps all a sudden is a big jump for a carbon ring, they usually gradually come into pressure over 40-100 rounds. N150 caused carbon rings in my 22gt but it was gradual velocity creap.

Yes I trimmed it to 1.550” per my reloading manual and that was obviously too short. Did I ruin this brass or can I just run it with less powder and eventually it will lengthen out again?

Nah nothing wrong with that. Typical 6br chambers are 1.570, 0.020" under is not a problem. I'd purchase a teslong bore cam if you don't have one, and inspect the throat area.

I might have missed it but what die are you using? Could it be the brass has grown so much and the die is not sizing the body down enough which is causing the brass to swell up and not contract which could be causing the increase in pressure therefore increasing velocity?

Could there have been moisture in the chamber or some left over cleaning fluid causing a spike in pressure?

Could be any of those things. I went back to my 1x fired brass, reloaded all of it and 0 problems.
It sounds like now would be a great time to to revisit all types of your brass and measure everything and record it. Case length, neck diameter both before and after , case diameter right at neck-body junction, case diameter at base above web reinforced area, comparative headspace, etc.

Oh, and do you anneal at all? Just curious.

Sounds like a plan. Yes. I use a Burstfire Annealer.

Berger 108EH jumped 55-60 thou and Varget... 30.0 grains look good considering I watched the reticle on shot #4 drop low left just as the shot broke. 28" Benchmark.

109 Berger, Viht N150, jumping 60k, L group is 30.5 going 2860, R group is 30.0 going 2815. Both 10 shot group. UPS man dropped barrel off yesterday, had a bunch of virgin brass to FF, loaded up 105 and 109s with Varget and N150, did some jump tests for break in.

Built a cheap 6br for practice, solus action, 28in CRB 7.5TW M24, MDT chassis, theos scope. Shoots pretty dang good.

This is a 6BR barrel that I picked up used for $200. The person I purchased it from has no information on this barrel as he bought it for the action. All we know is that it’s a 1-10” twist.
No manufacturer or gunsmith name on it.
Savage style barrel nut.
Where would you go from here?
I only have around 35 GM205M primers but I will search out more if testing proves that group sizes are smaller than with BR-4’s
From my limited testing it seems that it may be the case.
That’s the next test I will be doing this weekend.
The snow is just starting to clear from our range and a good spring cleaning and target stand repair is needed

A comment re Varget: just NO, I'm not paying over $400 a jug for it plus hazmat and shipping. I just got a jug of N150 for $371 to my door; saved right at $100 over Varget from the same vendor (BCR) and if it does as well in 6BR as N135 has in .223 I'll be a very happy curmudgeon.

Hey guys I need some help from the neck turners out there. I turned new Alpha 6br br brass down to .011 everything went great now after resizing I'm seeing like .0116 around the bottom of the neck towards the neck shoulder junction. I don't think I should be seeing that much growth but let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Base of neck shouldn't matter. The br neck is so long that you'll likely never have a bullet seated into that donut area unless you're using a 115 dtac or similar. This is freebore and jump dependant of course.

Its tough to get all the neck turned unless you take a little of the shoulder. I don't like to neck turn, but when I do, I fire once, size neck, turn a bit past neck down into shoulder.

So what's interesting is that I did some further testing and tried a smaller bush.. and boom problem was gone. All sizes again and the all 11 thou to the shoulder

Playing around with Hornady 105 bthp to practice with since I have 1500, and don’t wanna burn hybrids.
Not to hateful with these results and it shooting just over half MOA. The BR is such a delight.

I have shot a bunch of 105 BTHP in my 6BR with stupid small accuracy out to 800yd. They are great

I have lucked into a mild, cheap 6BR load that shows amazing promise:
  • 105gr Barnes Match Burner
  • 29.4gr Vihtavuori N150 --> 2770fps (28" 1:7.5 Bartlein)
  • CCI 450
  • Alpha brass (virgin and 9x-fired)
I'm getting consistent 5-shot 100-yard groups in the .3s and quite a few in the .2s, and the load holds 1/2MOA (paper target) or better at 540 yards with two Bartlein barrels - a brand-new one and an "experienced" one with 2500+ rounds on it (both 1:7.5 twist). Jumping .060 in old barrel, new one at .030 off the lands. I've shot them to 1000 - not too many yet, easy hits on full IPSCs and hits on 2-MOA plates are as good as any bullets I've tried including Berger HTs. The MBs are a bit chubby, but the matches I've been going to have been trending toward smaller 1-3MOA targets 600 yards and under with only one or two stages with one or two targets each going to 1000 or more so super slick bullets aren't that important.

It also helps that a buddy of mine who has gone all-in on Berger HTs and Varget has offloaded a bunch of these MBs cheap!

Took my Maverick off to try a Botnia on this beast. Zero only moved about a half tenth right. Top two groups where with my lite fill rear bag. Bottom two with heavy fill rear bag. Bottom right was after adjusting .05L on the scope.

Should be all set for the Positional Punisher in a couple weeks.

58 vmax.
3450 fps.
8208 powder
Shoot .7 ish with minimal load work.
Cuts baby gophers in half, big gophers it just goes thud and turns the lights out.
I did shoot a squirrel at 415 yards today, sadly it didn’t blow it in half, pin in and little explosion exit (we have a nuisance permit so all legal).
