I'm looking to start buying some powders for my build. I have awhile til it's done. Is it reasonable to assume that any 243 win or 308 win powders will work in the 7mm-08? I have a lot of IMR 4064 from my 243 but wanted some others to try. H4895, varget, H4350. I am leaning toward the extreme line because of such big temp swings from practice in summer to hunting in winter. Any pet loads are welcomed. Thanks. I'll be using 168 gr bergers.

I've tried. 4350, Varget and RE17. All work. None give good velocity, but I listed them roughly in order of velocity to be achieved. In the end I sacrificed velocity for temp stability, consistency and low SD numbers, which means 4350 for me with 162s and 168s.

I too had good accuracy at 2650 + with H4350. I started to work with H414, got to 2650 w/no pressure and have no farther data on that yet.
Well posted H4350 likely the most stable if Varget does not work.

eta; OAL might also be a consideration. The 4350 gets tight on space. Varget may help in that case but watch pressure. Starting with a "short" 168 7-08, 40gr. is getting close already imo.

I used ww760 and H4I4.
Great velocity, metering, and accuracy but temperature sensitive. Safe loads developed in 70 degree weather showed pressure in 90+ degree weather. If I was to start again I would try H4350. It seems to be the extruded go to in cases that run out of room.

Try Re-19. More temp sensitive, but gives the best velocity and accuracy in my rifle. Velocity was under what I hoped for, but accuracy was outstanding with H4350, but to get it I was right under the pressure limit. Because of that, if I fired long strings I started seeing pressure signs on my brass. So, I tried H4831sc and that gave as good of accuracy at the same velocity without hitting pressure signs when the barrel got warm.

+1 I've been using 760/414 in my rifle...getting great accuracy, low SD, and real good velocity, but I'm only shooting 140gr pills with 47-48gr of powder, WLRP, Win brass

I have 2 7mm08

26" Barrel
46gr H4350
Loaded mag length 2.85"
162s
2750fps
No pressure

17" Barrel
40.4gr Varget
168s loaded shorter 2.75"
2550fps
Slight pressure

Im going to test Varget and 2000mr in the 26" barrel and see what it can do.

I have been using Varget, 4895, 4064 and V V 135 with 168 Sierra HPBT's for decades. I am now using 4350 with 6.5 Creedmoor (like a 6.5-08) and it has given me best performance with 123's 140's and 142's. I only shoot long range now and stopped shooting Across-the-course matches after coming back from Iraq the last time. yes, your .308 powders will do fine. I recommend getting a good reloading manual or getting your info on loading direct from the manufacturer's loading data. Start on the low side and work up loads while looking carefully for signs of pressure. When you get close, alter primer brands, adjust your seating depth, and always start with good brass.
Best of luck, shoot safely.

Let's see, I've used h4895, varget, RE15, IMR & H4350, 760, 2000MR, of these Id bet 2000MR will work best with 168s, it works well with 162AMAXs, btw.

I use Varget in my 7mm-08AI. I tried IMR 4350 but couldn't get enough in it for a decent velocity at my oal.

IMR 4350 has worked best for me. I have a 27" barrel, and see right at 2800fps at 80-90*. Now that it is cooling off, I will get back to my detailed data logging of velocities in various temperatures. I am using FL resized Lake City LR cases and a BR2. When temperatures are in the low 60's, I am right at 2790fps consistently.

Varget seems to work the best for me for accuracy out of both of my rifles in 7mm-08, one is a Browning BLR and the other is a Rem 700.

I can't find any H4350 and haven't been able to for a while. I went with varget and IMR4064 (because I had it). Hopefully the varget is good. I like the extreme powder

I'm using CFE-223 in my 7mm-08 AI for hunting loads and have been very please with FPS and accuracy. No pressure signs @ 49.0 grains in 80+ degree temps for the Nosler 120gr BT.

My buddy got a nice 8 pointer with a load I did for him, 154SP over 38.5grs RE15, WLR, Rem brass. He was quite excited about the damage that bullet did. Sorry, no pics this time. hehe
