Active Shooter at Fort Stewart

5 shot, condition unknown:
So, a couple hours after the fact, we know it was an active duty, male, SSG. Any guesses on the rest of the details? Seems like they let out all the important information.

^ I've been retired 7 years, and we (multiple senior SNCOs) carried on base regularly when I was in.
We just didn't tell anyone about it.

In 2016 a rule DoDD made a directive that local commanders could authorize concealed carry. With the emphasis not placed on individual responsibility in our current society, commanders erred on the side of safety for their careers. How soon before we see another FT Hood, Naval Ship yard, Recruiting Station or FT Stewart shooting again, Soldiers were made soft targets by Clinton and kept that way thanks to the weak sauce. Just my .02 aka opinion
Crazy thing is the people at the top, and E7 down, are all on board with common sense. It's the bottom officer ranks that act like middle management and do absolutely nothing productive unless it's covering their ass.

You say that but I have met my share of retards that are enlisted and officers. Being a moron and/or risk adverse is not just an officer thing.
The ones that could authorize CC are not bottom ranks, they are your COL and above levels that have political aspirations. Just my opinion aka .02

There was a Major with a CCW that forgot to secure his pistol when coming onto post at Fort Leavenworth. At the gate he realized that he forgot he had his pistol on him and without being asked he apologized to the gate guard and said that he has a CCW and asked if he could put the pistol away. He was detained and was quickly removed from the military. For him, honesty didn't pay.Well... I didn't.

The directive has been around almost a decade but almost zero base commanders allow it.
All uniform soldiers should carry if they wish. It would make the security posture of all installations as well as military personal much more secure.
If you cant be trusted to carry a loaded gun stateside, you cant be trusted to wear the uniform.

It's not their responsibility. It's the responsibility of the individual carrying the gun, just like in normal life.

Active duty military is as close to a socialist society as we have anywhere in America. They tell you where you will live, what job you will have, what you can and can’t say and that drills down to minute details of your life in many aspects. Free room and board, unlimited medical, guaranteed paycheck first and fifteenth. In return they get institutionalized warriors used to following every order to the word, at the sacrifice of many Constitutional protections where failure to obey is a criminal offense and no, you can’t quit until your years long contract is up. A necessary evil to institute discipline, but military society is anything but freedom based.
Commanders are control happy, and the older they are and longer they’ve lived in that anti-freedom environment the less likely they are to allow anything similar to regular society. Sad they keep getting taught the same lesson, and shameful they preach run-hide on base.
This shooter would get the infamous words from my old Platoon Sergeant, a cowboy boots and hat wearing Black Texan: “Punks like you give my race a bad name…”. That Marine was fucking awesome.

Had something similar happen to someone in our OG but he didn’t volunteer anything, so they didn’t find anything. He retired as an LTC.
He was probably one of the ones that had to have someone next to him shooting at the very end of qualification... miraculously his score suddenly jumped just high enough everyone else could go home.
Personally I think this sort of thing should be considered an act of treason. You turn your rifle on your own men and it's not to stop some messed up war crime type crap... nah... you done messed up, firing squad, take aim!
Thankful that he sucked and everyone is alive.
And yes, this dude needs shot by a firing squad in the middle of the base on a Friday, and everyone gets off early to be able to witness.

Not sure if it’s still allowed, but before I left the panhandle, you could carry loaded firearms through the gates on Hurlburt Field if you were assigned, retired LEO or a member of the rifle/pistol club. Had to leave it in your vehicle, but at least I didn’t have to stop, download and stow before entering.
Don’t drive 10 miles east and try that at Eglin.
Yeah, that's because the Hurlburt commander is AFSOC and didn't want to deal with the paperwork of all the guys who carried on base already illegally if they got caught.
