I've done my homework and feel pretty confident that these two are the top of the line for what I can spend(~$3K) so I'm looking for owner's of either brand feedback. Specifically the number of long guns it can store in relation to the manufacturer's listed capacity and any failures(fire or theft) that you may have firsthand knowledge of.

I also looked into used commercial safes and for the size I need I'm looking at spending about 50% more so I think that option is out. But if you know of any places that google doesn't list in the first two or three pages that I may find a deal at please let me know.

Thanks in advance for the feedback and help.

I'm a locksmith and would go with the amsec. It's what I have.
The safes will hold the advertised number of long guns unless they are scoped... Then you can basicly cut the capacity by 1/3. Buy once cry once!

You may also want to check out rifle rods to hold your guns in place. http://www.uniquetek.com/site/696296/product/T1327

1/3 of my safe is shelves, the other 2/3 is open for long guns. I opted to not have any gun cut outs, instead opting to use the rifle rods. Have been very happy with how they work.

Agreed, scoped and/or AR style guns will take up addtional room.

While not a brand you mentioned - Zanotti armor is the brand I went with due to it's ease of getting into a basement and moving when the time comes to move. The other plus with this brand was that I was able to lay out the interior to my specs when I ordered - I didn't have to settle with an interior lay out that they thought was best.

My Amsec BF is very nice. It has the manual lock. It is a dark brown color, with gold trim. Interior is very nice. quality i feel is nicer than fort knox (my buddy has a knox). As previously mentioned, adding guns with scopes or pistol grips will cut down on capacity. Buy the BIGGEST one you can afford and install properly. You can always use the extra room. I bought the biggest one I could afford at the time, and its almost full. You wont regret AMSEC. Their customer service is excellent too.
