FINALLY, got my .243 back from the masters!

First thing I did was yank the A-5 and give it some Krylon yesterday. Funny, my paint job looks very much like el gordo's Savage down the page, but I did mine with the 'sponge' technique...
Anyhoo, here she is!

Rem 700SA w/ side bolt release & KMW shifter
26" Rock 5R in Rem Varmint contour, 7.5 twist
McMillan A-5 EDGE
Seekins DBM
Rifle Basix LV-1
Premier 3-15x50 Gen II Mildot
Seekins lows & 20MOA base

As for the camo job, I snapped some pics along the way...
First, candy stripe with TAN & OD

Then sponge TAN over the OD stripe...

And sponge OD over the TAN stripe...

Finally, a little sponged on black here & there, as shown in the finished photo and that's it!

Thanks for lookin' & good shootin'!

Dude, that looks amazing. You did a real good job. Congrats!

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

I'm noy much for fancy paint...

but you are on to something there...

nice job...

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Beautiful stick, and awesome job on the paint. I'm afraid of 3 things in life. Spiders, heights and painting things. Your technique looks so fucking solid even my mentally retarded about paint ass could do that. What type of sponge did you use?

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Thanks fellas!
I just used a natural paint sponge that is available at most any hardware store. I cut it with a pair of scissors to find a porous section that looked like it would offer a good pattern. More pores = less surface area. If you have doubts about what it will look like, just dab the sponge on a scrap of cardboard for practice...

I'm the farthest thing from artistic, so any 10 thumbed buffon like me can do this stuff...

Now I can play with the 4350 & 115DTACs...

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Often have I pondered the sponge method.....now I know. Thanks for posting!

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Dang I was hopin' you were gonna say that the stock was molded in camo and that McM had a new technique. Oh well nice Krylon job.

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Looks very nice. I agree with a few posts above. I have a dark fear of painting things. I know in most cases the paint is removable but trashing the exterior of 1000$ plus toy horrifies me just the same.

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Between you and Gordo I'm definitely rippin' off (uh, copying... it's the sincerest form of flattery right?) some camo!

New stock on the way!

Thanks for the "How To".

Jimmy2T,
Krylon Ultra Flat Camo Fusion spraypaint for the stock.
The barreled action & bottom metal were OD Cerakoted at GAP...

Thanks again for all the positive feedback!

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

I guess I found my next weekend project.

LOOKS DAMN GOOD

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

After looking at this thread, I was off to Wallyworld and pic'd up Krylon, arts and craft sponge and blue tape. Spent two minutes disassembling rifle. About five minutes taping, another minute two find a coat hanger to hang rifle. After hanging rifle from a tree, I spent 3-4 minutes spraying first coat. I let 1st coat dry for an hour. Then sponged on second coat, let dry for an hour. Paint job is complete. Had I known it was this easy I would have done it a long time ago. I would post a pic but it looks identical to the one in the pic above.

Thanks Knockemdown

Damn nice looking rifle!!! You need to get moving on painting that scope and bipod. It's all or none.

Thanks for posting a how too with photos. I've painted several rifles and scopes with Krylon, but I love how this method looks.

Thanks again.

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Ok, I WAS waiting for the first scratch...

But this looks truly cool and Idiot proof...

Breaking out the Krylon...

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

That looks very good, simple too, makes me want to camo-up my rifle.

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Do you puddle the krylon on a piece of paper and sponge it on that way? Or do you use a different source of paint to sponge on to the stock?

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

I just sprayed the Krylon straight onto the sponge. I did not puddle and dip. It worked well

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

I love it! This is how I'll try my next paint job.

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

I am very interested in doing this to my B&C but it is all black do you think if i take lighter paint and do this it will come out the same? maybe a od green and and what other colors do you think would be cool

thanks for the info if i get to paint i will try to post pics

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Eddie did you put a base coat of tan on your rifle I have the same stock. did you glass bed your stock as well. ?
thanks
Kirk

Re: Another GAP in da house! With camo 'how to' pics..

Kstraughen, No solid base coat. I did just like the OP did. Don't overthink it. It's just paint. If you don't like it, paint it again. And no I did not glass bed it.
