I've built 5 F1 cans; damned things can be a bit addictive. If you're handy and can use a calculator, you can do your own and skip the kits. That opens you up to using the best cones, such as those from Dino Precision and Pure Performance Armory. Otherwise, I'd go with a White Trash Tactical kit.

Personally, I've always built mine from scratch. Three have Dino cones, one has mushroom baffles, and the other has cones that aren't so great. One Dino can lives on my HD 300BLK SBR; loudest thing, from the shooter's perspective, is the gun cycling. Similar designs have tested out at 120 dB. I've got an 8.5" Dino can that I use with my 6.5 CM bolt gun. Every time I take it to a group practice at my club, no less than three people come over and ask the brand, because they can't believe how quiet it is.

This may be a silly question but are the purpose made cups really that much better than formed freeze plugs. They are substantially cheaper but heavy as hell. Switching to titanium cups would save a ton of weight but cost over $200.

Yes.

17-4 SS is pretty resilient, and if machined properly, can damn near match the weight of Ti. Freeze plugs will do the job, yes; but they will leave a lot of room for improvement in the way of performance.

Looks like they're pretty much all getting rejected. One guy on reddit posted that he sent pictures from the mcmaster-carr catalog and told them he was going to make it himself from bar stock. He got approved.

Based on my research; I would say you are incorrect. I've read of quite a few coming through now. Haven't tried recently myself, but will.

Keep us updated if you do. I haven't been following it as closely since the mass denials happened so I could be wrong. I know a bunch of reps sent a letter to the ATF about it so maybe that will have an impact.

People that received the denials, are already getting approved. Some using just simple description, and no pictures. I have also read of guys that submitted photos, and have been approved.

Its all still a big shit show. Hopefully the letters from representatives, and ASA/GOA help smarten things up.... at the very least.
