Ok.
I demo’d a Pulsar Apex XQ50 and the base 2.8x makes for a narrow window. I have a lot of coyotes and other predators roaming my back yard. The tall grass line ranges from 20-50yds so the wider FOV the better.

I also have have options to shoot out to a couple hundred yards at other locations. I can’t see the Pulsar I am using working.

So what would provide a wide FOV at 20yds and still work for 300yds?

Cost is second to depreciation over the next day 2 years. I really don’t mind spending money on quality as long as it doesn’t depreciate like a rock. I was also considering a refurbished kac pvs30. Looking around uneducated the Trijicon hunter mkII 19mm with a 22* FOV looks good. But is there something cheaper?

I've used the Mk3 and Mk3 trijicon 35mm for my coop patrols on a 5.56(10.3) carbine ... that covers the coons, opossum and yotes ...

But I also use a .22LR(16) ... in this case with an ATN ODIN 17mm 1x 320(30) on top ... good for rats, mice, coons, opossum .

Previously I used an Armasight Q-14 19mm 1x 640(30) on the .22LR(16) for same purpose.

The .22LR with the 1x thermals works great close in ... for further out the 5.56 picks up ... even 2x is a bit too much magnification close in ... I had an Apex 50mm that was 2x ... but again ... I prefer the 1x for close in. The Apex 38 with 1.25x is fine ... I still have that one and I usually have it lent out to my neighbor for his ratting on his 22lr(16).

So short answer ... I've usually used two guns and two scopes for the two purposes ... although the purposes have a lot of overlap ...

So here is kinda what I’m working with. I have a 9” 300bo with a permanently attached cyclone I had laying around.

I’ve read as much as I could and read that an auto loader is preferred because you maintaining sight picture.

I’m not a fan of the cheekweld, but it’s workable to say the least.

Cheek weld can be fixed by installing a Luth AR adjustable stock

I run a Trail xp50.. base native 1.6x

I have ran this quite a bit on foot patrol, as well as my Apex 38a, which is 1.5x
If you want decent Fov, I have been satisifed with this base power.. I can get on, find, and
track targets easily and without the fumbling that occurs when the mag is too high/ range to
close..

Yes there are times when I want / could use more base native mag.. but having Fov is
king when using the weapon mounted scope also as my scanner.

I would suggest trying something in 1x or 1.5/1.6x base native, for your suggested
needs of in close, quick scan, quick acquisition .

Yes there are times when i want more mag power, so as to be able to PID a distant
target, but even when i do shoot out farther, I almost always stay on 1.6x, simply because
of the 640 resolution ..

IE.. for me, the 640 res on 1.6x is still better than the 320 res on 3.2x, even though Im
giving up the zoom, I personally prefer the crisper resolution.

I have shot coyotes using the Trail xp50, out to 350yds on 1.6x . Yes the target is small, but
still easily seen.

Go test out 1x or 1.5 ish x
