Any Chicago Bears viruses... I mean fans , here? Thoughts on the offseason so far? Expectations for the upcoming season?

    nope. Eagles.

Ugh, my wife is an eagles fan. Thankfully she doesn’t pay very close attention to any sport so it’s not so bad

We are a house divided, myself and oldest son are bears fans, wife and youngest son are packer fans. We all agree on ND so we can be civil.
Upcoming seasons expectations are going to be a little better than last year but not as good as year before.

My high school girlfriend was a packer fan. We were able to be civil during the games but there were definitely hostilities exchanged

My wife and I have definitely lost some interest in football over the years so our sons may not care at all, which will be fine with me

I'm not as big of a Bears fan as I used to be but over the past couple seasons I've been paying a bit more attention.

I'm interested to see how the Foles trade pans out for them. Their defense 'should' surely be top 3 in the league with the additions of Robert Quinn, Jaylon Johnson, and Tashaun Gipson. Definitely filled some shortcomings on the defense. However their O-line still concerns me and the amount of attention they've paid to the TE spot bugs me. I know he's not a perfect fit for Nagy's offense but I'm hoping they figure out a way to pick up Warford after he was released by the Saints.

From what I’ve heard, the OL coaches they got rid of were more of a problem than the players. The system they were trying to use was overly complicated and difficult for the players to pick up. Just based on that, the offense should be marginally better. And if the offense can improve to just “not too shitty” they can definitely make the playoffs. And, if the defense stays even a tiny bit healthier than last year they should be better than ‘18 which is insane to say

Damn, I hadn't heard about that but it makes a lot of sense. Hopefully Nagy starts to look for more of a balance between the run and the pass instead of focusing so much on moving the ball through the air. I think David Montgomery has a lot more in him than they're giving him credit for. I'll be honest, Foles was not one of my first choices at quarterback for them to pickup. I was rooting for Carr (If LVR released him), Andy Dalton (good ol' Red Rocket), and then Foles. However after they did make the trade and I looked into their reasoning as to why the chose him, I'm a lot more comfortable and optimistic about it. Also intrigued to see how Mooney and Ted Ginn Jr. do. I really liked Gabriel but both of them easily rival his speed.

And I agree with you on defense. I'm really excited to see how Mack and Quinn on opposite edges will do as well as getting a good, seasoned strong safety in Gipson allowing Jackson to focus on being a free safety and a ball hawk. A lot of the pieces coming together do seem promising.

Don’t hold your breath waiting on more run game, that’s not how an Andy Reid offense works, or at least a run game the is common around Chicago. If Jimmy Graham can be even a shadow of his former self and Cole Kmet can contribute any this year I think the offense could improve significantly. And maybe, just maybe, not look like a peewee football offense...

The only thing on defense I truly want to see is everyone staying healthy. If that happens, the sky is the limit for the D. Looking at the additional players they signed/drafted combined with the previous success this crew had the potential is absolutely fucking terrifying.

Agreed, I was confused and slightly disappointed that they picked a TE given the other talent that was available at the time but I'm trying to stay optimistic for him. Still think they over payed Jimmy G but it's done now so hopefully he can produce. Shouldn't be difficult for him to be better than Shaheen or Burton so we'll see.

A houseplant is more effective than burton or shaheen.

I try not to get too caught up in who gets drafted or signed in free agency. Us fans only have a tiny understanding of player evaluations in the overall context of the team and that players fit.

I agree. Whenever we sign someone or pick someone up, I have an opinion of it as a fan of course but I don't get upset about it like some people do. The coaches and front office have much more knowledge and insight than I do.

St Nick is arguably the best QB who played for the Eagles in the last decade.

Why Chip the Moron ever traded him for Sammy Sleeves can only be explained by the understanding that Chip was, in fact, a moron.
Frat boy Doug has no such excuse though. Doug watched Nick win the greatest Superbowl of all time, out dueling Tom Brady and even catching a TD pass. The thing with Nick is that when the OC game plans to Fole's strengths, the guy is fantastic. When these other teams around the league take Foles and try to square peg him into a round hole, then he looks bad. But that's more of an indictment against their coaching than Foles' potential as a starter.

So... Anyone concerned that the nfl is going to follow in the nba’s footsteps and turn into a contest to see who can out-sjw one another? I kind of am and am preparing a bunch of yard/house shit to do this fall

I'll have to see if I can find the article again but saw something either yesterday or Saturday about how Mike Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers team knelt in the middle of their field however, contrary to many other organizations, Mike Tomlin was leading them in prayer. Seemed like a little glimmer of hope for the league.

Sounds much more productive than wearing a t-shirt with an empty slogan on it.

I was only able to follow the game on ESPN’s website so I didn’t see any of the nonsense. A friend of mine turned his tv off in the first few minutes and went out in the yard as his own form of protest. I’m sure if I ever get to actually watch a game this season I’ll end up doing the same

I liked Mitch well enough but he had to produce on the field, which he did at very fleeting moments. Good luck to him next year on whichever team is desperate enough to take a flyer on him

So 5-1, anyone have any thoughts? I guess the only thing I can say is just to reiterate what Foles said yesterday. It’s better to win ugly that to lose pretty. I’m still annoyed that the offense can’t string a coherent sentence together though

I think the offense looks better now than they did with Trubisky. My concern has now shifted from QB to RB though. We're struggling without Cohen, hopefully they bring up Lamar Miller soon.

The offense does look better and it gives me a bit of hope that Foles was able to do enough against vastly better defenses than what Trubisky played against. I’m not necessarily concerned about RB, I think that is more dependent on the OL play. And the OL play has been average at best lately, soooo...

Agreed, "concerned" about the RB position may have been a little overdramatic but I do think they need someone to help take some of the load off of Montgomery however I am optimistic about Cordarrelle Patterson's new rule in the backfield, but again, I'd like to see what Lamar can bring to the table, we could have a nice committee backfield with those three. I do agree that we definitely need help on the OL, more so now with Daniel's out for the season. I'm hoping that Pace is in the process of making some deals to get some help before the deadline comes and goes. I had my fingers crossed for Damon Harrison before Seattle nabbed him but last I heard he was only on their practice squad so Bears could still snake him away.

I’m kind of torn about the OL issue. I don’t really like the idea of building through free agency but this team is so close to being legit. Another problem is that the biggest need is to replace Leno and the only way to get a good deal on LT’s is to hit a homerun in the draft. I don’t think there’s anyone vital to the team that isn’t under contract or that we can’t get a deal done for so next year’s team will look almost identical. Hopefully the plan is to fight as far into the playoffs as possible, add some new OL blood this offseason and make a deeper run next year

Building through free agency will obviously help us in the here and now and to go as deep as possible this year and maybe help us for a season or two to come but I agree that OL is definitely a draft priority next season which, on the bright side, we've got a lot of picks (as of right now) for next years draft.

Do we finally have a 1st round pick? It’ll be weird seeing one of those again

I THINK (as it sits right now) we've got our own first, second, third, fifth, and sixth round pics as well as a compensatory pick from the Dolphins from Adam Shaheen (who's doing quite well in Miami) and maybe 2 more compensatory 6th rounders from other free agents or something like that.

Dont worry, we will probably blow that 1st rounder on another bust quarterback.

I think Foles is good enough. I just hope that we get our offensive line figured out before the window closes on what is close to being a championship team.

Let's hope not however I will say trading our 1st rd pick for Mack was worth it.
The meatball fan in me wants to still say the first half of his first game in a bears uniform(prime time packers game) made the trade worth it

That and watching Brady's face the other week after he looked over and saw that Mack sacked him...again

Bears fan all my life, but haven't been watching much this season. Beer virus has my internal sports clock all screwed up.

Looks like the Bills just happened to release a pretty dang good left guard in Quinton Spain, hopefully Pace has already picked up the phone! Cordarrelle Patterson is already doing what he does best and recruiting via twitter 😂

Ugh, what the fuck? Anybody think that game was a signature on Nagy’s walking papers?

I'd prefer it's the signature on Pace's papers but I could go for both. I still don't understand why they haven't been more aggressive on beefing up the swiss cheese they call an o-line. If Pace doesn't start making moves now to fix that then I give up. Foles didn't have a single chance all game to throw a decent pass.

Sure, I guess I won’t bitch too much of its him too.

IMO though I’m not sure if the coaching staff is shit or if the talent that Pace has picked is shit. Or both... He’s at least done a great job on defense. And on offense, at least on paper, there are players that should be good or have played good in the past. Maybe the players aren’t happy with the Trubisky benching? I have seen the idea floated that Nagy should give up in-game play calling to someone else and he didn’t immediately dismiss this when a reporter asked him about it. I think he does have a great offense-centric mind but needs some polishing( lol, understatement) of his game planning

So… anybody got anything? I’m desperate for some sort of silver lining. I know it was just preseason, I understand what preseason is about, but holy hell that was tough to pay attention to. I guess I could list a few bright spots as; Justin Fields starting at some point this season and…ummm….Nagy being fired in the off-season. Is that all?

Remember when the NFL took Hank Williams jr off the air for comparing Obama to Adolf Hitler? That was the end of my NFL watching days. Since then, the NFL has devolved into all the other things that make professional sports not worth my time or money. Maybe it was on that course before then, but that was the breaking point for me. Until people are ready to give up things they enjoy to get our country back on the right course, we will keep sinking into the abyss. Bitch about vaccines, wokeness, felons, worthless POS and general leftness with one hand and then support organizations that encourage this shit with the other. I believe people should do what they want, and I am all for that, but I would rather sacrifice things, so future generations are not mandated to "fill in the blank" or can't mock their leaders. The people before me, gave up so much more...........

Andy Dalton will get the shit knocked out of him Sunday night & Fields will be starting game 2.
Maybe, I hope not though. That will mean the OL is somehow worse than we thought

It’s been two years since I had a super bowl party. I have no favorite team. It’s a goodbye for me. Rip.

Hey, Debbie downers, step off your soap boxes and go find another thread.

I get it. The NFL isn’t getting much from me. I watch a few regular season games and maybe some playoffs. The action I do see is usually a highlight video.

    Lol, Fuck off.

I know this is an article about the absolute first steps towards asking the question of purchasing the bears. I don’t think it will happen, but if the city ultimately does buy the franchise I’ll be finding a new team -or- just forgetting about the fooseball altogether

I prefer that they move to Arlington and build the giant complex to catch up with the rest of the teams in the league.
