Bergara BXR

I grabbed a BXR001, first shoot with it today.
Shot SK Semi Auto an CCI Std and both fed fine, not a blip all day almost 200 rounds.
Also factory magazine drops free and feeds all 10 rounds no hickups. So looks like I got a good one.
Will shoot some groups tomorrow but from what I saw today it's a shooter.

They are nuts accurate for sure. The most fun semi-auto I own.

Second outing at the range today. Put in a KIDD 2 stage trigger - very nice. Will take a bit of getting used to a trigger that lite. Shot CCI SV, SK LR, & Wolf Match Extra. SK LR was best, but not competitive. Will keep looking. Next up Eley Match and Tenex.

I hear ya on getting used to a lighter trigger. I put the Mcarbo spring kit in my BXR and it really lightened it up. Is a cheap easy mod. Only thing needed diffeent from a 10/22 is to shorten their trigger return spring. Cut it to length of the BXR spring and you are good to go. I am going to grab a Tandemkross Victory trigger shoe which will remove the overtravel and hope to have a nicer than original trigger on the cheap.
One of these days I will grab a trigger scale and see what it reads.

Stuck my BXR01 in a KRG Bravo 10/22. Not a drop in fit but a lil dremel work and it's in. Feels much better than the original stock.
Also a bonus, the BXR Butt-Pad bolts right up, no need to spend extra for KRG spacers. Just need some M5x45mm screws if you want all three length of pull spacers. Subtract 10mm off screws for each spacer removed. With all 3 BXR spacers mounted I am at 13 1/4" LoP.

That looks pretty bad ass! Are you happy with it’s feel?

Absolutely happy. I will be shooting this rifle much more often now. Felt too small and toyish before.
Now feels like it's all growed up!

Go back to SK as you had good results in the past. How did the Eley pan out. Mine loves Eley as much as SK
”Good” results with SK were the better of the CCI SV andWolf ME. Then got brick @ of Eley Tenx & Lapua Center-X. Center-X average group was 0.524”, Tenx 0.938”. So shot Center-X in the match. Even considering the low, 321 round count I doubt there are any 2s or even 3s in the future.

Somethings not right. Barrel is feee floated into that new stock correct? Perhaps play with torque on action screws. Your groups should be tight!!!

Single screw in OEM stock torqued to 30 inch lb. Barrel free floated. Sinclair bipod & heavy rear bag. Have several different velocities of Eley Black box to try. Once “best” ammo is tested will work with screw torque.

So getting to know the BXR continues. Had a very, very lite KIDD trigger in it but it was just too light. Put the original back in and it acts like two different triggers. If just allowed to just reset it is very good,
almost great. Letting the trigger fully return really increases the pull weight. But it is still pretty good at 2 lb 8 oz.

I’m rolling up on a year owning mine, 1500 rounds through it and still love it. Incredible with SK match ammo. What scope did you top yours with?

And so it goes. The BXR has a lot going for it: screwed in barrel, cleaning rod hole, match chamber, extended mag release, good trigger, threaded barrel, 30 MOA rail, good stock with adjustable LOP. After shooting groups with six different ammos from CCI SV to Eley & Lapua, the best groups are still a bit bigger then 0.500”. Finished next to last in class in last month’s match. Must have been built on Friday - afternoon.
One month later the KIDD Supergrade was delivered. More $$$ but worth it with groups down to 0.250”.

So currently your shooting .25 at 50 or 100 yards?

My buddy and I bought these BXRs on impulse last year and have messed with them a little. We were struggling to decide how to set them up. I think we finally have them sorted. Rimfire DMRs. Need to get some distance data recorded soon.

We have not fired any benched groups yet. Been too busy with training and work. Hope to get that done soon.
Well, you and your buddy have good glass on them and everything is torqued to spec, quality ammo and your fundamentals are in check, you’ll be poking 9 shots through the first hole👍

Shot Eley Force, 0.691” group average. Then tried action screw torque changes from 15 to 30 in/lb. Surprised that 15 IP was the best with an average of 0.420” and 30 the worst at 0.670”. Would really like to see some of those really tight groups people have reported.

I don't know about that, lol. We got out Sunday to record scope settings with a few bolt guns. We took the BXRs along. I have the Burris with ballistic plex reticle. Zeroed at 50, hits to 130 were easy on a 6-inch plate. No groups yet but the rifle ran well and shot well. Ammo was Prime semi-auto.

My BXR also runs 100% and easily hits plates at 100+ yards even with CCI SV. But the best it has ever grouped is 0.420”, not the bug holes been hearing about.

I got a BXR last spring. I too had some feeding problems but they went away after 500+ rounds. I now have a Victor Titan Universal Cheekrest and a Kidd 2 stage trigger set at 6oz. Performance is much better and the accuracy has improved. I have shot a lot of different ammo through it. Mine prefers Eley Semiauto Benchrest Precision and Eley Semiauto Benchrest Outlaw.
Do you have a picture of how the cheek rest fits on there?

I bought mine around this time last year during the 2A Tax Free Weekend. I read some of the comments here before ever getting it out to the range and was discouraged. So far mine has been great. It’s had a few failures to feed, but the more I use it the fewer they become. I guess it had to get broken in. I haven’t cleaned it yet and have a lot of ammo to test to see what it likes the best. So far I’ve found it likes 40 grain projectiles around 1050-1080 fps. Cheap bulk pack stuff isn’t consistent in this rifle; they end up with a much larger spread than match grade. Attached is one of my best groups from 50 yards with Eley Match, and I didn’t measure it but you can almost cover it with a dime.

All of these were five shot groups at 50 yards. No changes were made to the scope on any ammo. Rifle was dirty prior to session and was not cleaned between different ammo types.

These were the first groups shot from the rifle in November 2020. The rifle was fresh out of the box (plus the scope) with no cleaning. Eley Match, Wolf Match Target, Federal Gold Medal Match/ Target/ HV Match, and som bulk pack Winchester. If find the targets I can tell you which groups belong to each ammo, but Eley did the best. All groups were shot at 50 yards.

Looks like mine after 1st range trip, 80 rounds. KIDD bolt buffer, $6.00 + shipping ordered next day - problem solved.

OFG
How many rounds was your first range day with that rifle? Was your bent and shear some plastic off while trying to get it out using a punch?
Also one more question; I’m new to 10/22 style rifles. Is there receiver block or something to put it on to knock out the pins? I don’t like the idea of any of the weight being supported by the scope.

First range day EIGHTY ROUNDS. Yes sheared plastic while taking it out. Block = piece of 2x4 with two holes under the pins. Pins should push out w/o much force required. With time they sometimes fall out.

Mine looked like that straight out of the box, no rounds fired. I replaced it with a quality polymer buffer. I posted pics like you have here, but on the FB BXR group. Absolutely unacceptable part in those guns! Otherwise, my rifle is great but that ill fitting, misshapen, wrong material buffer was freaking awful.

Thanks I have a small 2x4 laying around that I can turn into this. It seems so simple I feel like an idiot for not thinking about it.

Will the BXR drop right into a KRG Bravo no issues ??
No, it takes some relieving of the inner chassis at the front of the receiver. Like 2min with a dremel and is good. Mine also needed an extra shim to keep barrel from contacting at bottom. I used a 1/4 fender washer between chassis and receiver and is all good. It is a nice combo.
