irate Staten Island mom blasted a grade school principal Wednesday for treating her son like a pint-sized Plaxico Burress after he brought a 2-inch-long toy gun to school.

"This principal is a bully and a coward, and needs to be held accountable," said Laura Timoney, 44, after her teary fourth-grader was nearly suspended for playing with the tiny toy at lunch.

"The school should be embarrassed. This is a common-sense issue."

Patrick Timoney, 9, was terrified when he was yanked into the principal's office to discuss the teeny-weeny plastic "weapon."

"The gun was so little," the boy said. "I don't understand why the principal got so upset. I was a little nervous. They made me sign a statement."

Patrick and a friend were playing with Lego figures in the school cafeteria on Tuesday when he pulled out the faux machine gun and stuck it in the hands of his plastic police officer.

Boom! Trouble ensued, with Patrick's mom getting a phone call from Public School 52 Principal Evelyn Mastroianni saying her son had somehow gone from straight A's to the NRA.

"I was in disbelief," the still-fuming mother said. "Why didn't anyone step up with an ounce of common sense and put an end to the harassment of my child?"

Timoney said her boy loved the toy figure because her husband is a retired police officer.

The elder Patrick Timoney, a former 72nd Precinct cop, couldn't believe his son was nearly busted over something so obviously inauthentic.

"It's a 2-inch gun," he said. "She went overboard. She should have said, 'Put the toys away,' and that would have been the end of it."

After a meeting between the principal and the parents, the boy was spared any disciplinary action. City school officials said Patrick agreed to leave the "gun" at home.

"I'm never bringing a toy to school again," said Patrick, whose favorite subject is math.

Laura Timoney remained upset. Her son, a typically eager student, asked to stay home yesterday because he thought the principal was mad at him.

The mother said she expects an apology and may sue.

"The toy gun is not the issue," she said. "A lack of common sense is the issue."

Several parents at the school felt the principal overreacted, including Kim O'Rieley - whose son was playing with Patrick in the cafeteria.

Her boy's Lego man was toting a tiny ax, which the principal deemed less threatening.

"It's ridiculous," said O'Rieley, 36. "He felt so bad for his friend. They're taking things way too far ... No one is saying guns are okay.

"Come on, it's a Lego."

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

The mom is asking for common sense? Come on now there is no way she should expect anyone in the public school system to use common sense these days.

That little plastic gun was dangerous it could have put out his eye out or something.

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

I think they should prosecute the parents for raising their kid in an unsafe environment with guns not secured. The kid should also have to go through a gun safety class and be fingerprinted.

Here's the kid with his deadly weapon.

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

But there is a zero tolerance policy on guns; any kind of guns-Play doh guns, chicken finger guns, pictures of guns, fingers-pointed-while-saying-bang-guns, etc.

Thus, according to the census thread logic, thougthful, unskeptical people must agree that the boy should have been punished: while it may not be in the constitution, it is the law so...

Jesus Christ! Is that an ACOG on that thing? Not only was he bringing fully automatic sub machine guns to school but also references to scripture! No wonder the school got upset.

No Queequeg, your right on. I hope that soon the liberals will create a machine that can determine if you even think about guns...mabey a little electrode around the penis that senses the blood flow. If it senses your pecker enlarging it knows your thinking about guns....and emits an electrical response to convince you to think about something else. The only way one could circumvent the shocking is to, while thinking of your guns, also hold in your mind, a picture of Shanksters herd. that should make the little guy dry up in a heartbeat

Toy guns kill people

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

Just think, if man had never given his hard hunted meat to that lazy good for nothing weak link who grew and raised the granola we wouldn't be in this position today. Can't we just take it all back with our regular 'I'm bigger/got more guns/have more will/take less bs/got more balls than you so I make the rules' attitude with them until they cry into their milk toast and ruin their sweater vests and pussy loafers?
Let's just put the boots to them and let them know we no longer want their kind on the planet.
Besides, toy guns are cool, even cooler than real ones sometimes!
Just ask my little GI Joe German SOldier who has a way cool PSG-1 in place of his Mauser

If they had grilled my kid and made him sign a statement before I got there (assuming the worst because why wouldn't you after hearing this) I would have lost my sense. I probably wouldve left in someone elses custody

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

Goldie,
Don't encourage him. It's bad enough as it is.

Shouldn't we all be buying gold now?
That's what I'm doing.

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

But which over priced gold should I buy? Goldline? Rosland capital? The company using the dude from L.A. Law who married Arnie Becker's ugly ass secretary?

And what about the seeds man? The global elite has all the good ones...

ETA, I forgot to place an apostrophe between the r and the s of Arnie Becker's last name in the above post. You see, the comedic value of a reference to a long forgotten ugly ass, annoying as hell, female character in a once popular, early 1990's NBC drama, would have been undermined by so greivous an oversight...

Ahh Yes... those three metals combine with some chromoly and stainless can get you all the Gold you should need but if it got to that point you'd be spending the three on some meat or protection.

Now back to the topic.

WOW... I'm glad that I grew up in a time long before this. We used to carry stuff that would land you in jail nowadays. We even had weapons in our automobiles (during hunting season).

Sounds like the kid will be somewhat traumatized from now on.

Agreed, I would have been livid.

I honestly don’t know the words to describe the stupidity of the principle/school. People are so fucking sensitive and politically correct to the point of absolute absurdity. When did common sense become endangered? I can only sit here and shake my head.

I remember when I was growing up if you didn’t play with armymen/gun toting action figures at that age there was something wrong with you. Now if a kid does it they are an unrepentant crazed gunman in the making.

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

I used to have a set of cave men, one of which held a rock over his head. Not quite as big as the G.I. Joes or Johnny West, but they held their own believe me.

I somehow related more to the guy with the boulder over his head than the ones with clubs or spears. Maybe it's because he looked like he was yelling something like, "I KEEL YOU" in cave man...

You said it....We now do it.. I used to talk bad about home schooling kids and said they were weird anti-social people....I was wrong......We now teach our kids at home and they are way ahead of even the private school kids which is where they used to go.... My kids are 14 and 12 and they are taking college prep classes and doing more research papers than I ever thought possible.......The majority of Public school systems and what they are teaching kids these days sucks....SmokeRolls

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

Wonder how it would play out differently if the lego figure had a hammer and sickle in his arms..all that aside this is an open and shut case of one person over-reacting to an inocuous situation.

Re: Boy in trouble over 2" lego gun

I remember when I was in junior high I was suspended for a week for bringing live ammo to school. They were 5-6 belted 30-06 tracer rounds. I wanted to show my friends and I didn't see the harm in bringing them to school since I didn't have the M1919 to fire them. The vice principal explained to me that these rounds could be detonated using a vise, a nail and a hammer. All these items could be found in the wood shop. This made sense to me and I took my punishment. I see things have changed considerably in those twenty or so years.

On a related note, a few months ago a co-worker was telling me she was watching the animated movie "Wal-E" with her two sons, aged 5 & 9. The movie is about robots in the future. She said she really liked the movie but objected to the fact that one of the robots had a laser and shot things. She was offended by the fact that lasers(guns) existed and that her sons were exposed to them. The story above seems to follow this strange logic. It seems surreal to me, almost like some sort of master plan straight out a science fiction 1984/Fahrenheit 451/Brave New World-type novel to breed an ignorant, feeble, materialistic, self absorbed society that can be easily manipulated. It's frightening.

It still amazes me how much America has changed since I grew up in North Carolina in the 70's. It was not unusual to have rifles in High School pick-up trucks waiting to go out and hunt after school. No one ever blinked an eye over that. In fact some of the teachers were doing the same. Now, we have come to this, a principal actually contemplating suspending a 7 year old for a toy plastic 2" gun. My how far we have come in such a short amount of time. And, I might add, not in a good way.

America has changed so much by those that want to rule your every thought and actions to ensure they comply with what THEY deem acceptable.

Then there were the 50's in Indiana,.. were some of us had our .22lr's in our wall lockers for the group hunts, on Friday nights. A few had .22 Colt Woodsman as well, mine was a 22" 10 shot H&R Targeter which I have to this day. All of us carried a sharp pocket knife an most had iron leg Traps w/bait in the lockers as well. Times/people were different then, you shake a man/woman/s hand and it was a done deal, no matter what. An elder told you to do something, you did it, you get a wipping at school, that would just be one of two for that day, when Dad got home, an pray he got there before Grandad heard about it.
Drug dealers, gang members, an such, were found in ditchs or drapped over a fence with a bullet to the back of the head. That was the way it was, an everyone knew what was going to happen based on the act that took place.
