Without further hijacking the other CA thread, I am spending 10 days in San Francisco this December for work. I have the weekend between, off. I am stuck in the city, northeast side near Moscone Center, without a car.

Am looking for ideas on how to spend my time, w/o having to step in human excrement, or beat up Antifa snowflakes...which might be a little fun, but...

I may consider renting a car and either driving to Yosemite park, or into Fernley, NV to see an old Jarhead bud. Both trips are about 4 hours. But, are the Sierra's passable in December?

If I decide not to do that, what other fun things to do are there in SF for a card carrying NRA/FPC member to do on foot?

*I've been to SF before, seen the bridge, seen China Town, been to Candlestick park, been to fisherman's wharf. Thanks!

Unless there's a big snowstorm in progress, I80 will be open and the drive should be fine. I would rather spend a weekend in Reno than SF.

If you have a rental, hop in it and head out to Muir Woods, just North of the city....the earlier you get there in the day, the better. It's stunningly beautiful.

If you have never taken a tour of Alcatraz, that's pretty cool too, worth the effort.

When I was there a couple years ago, seem like a lot of people had signs and cans to put money in. Could try that and if it works out, when you get back to OH IO you would be allowed to buy ammo with it.?
Seriously though check out Yosemite if you can, awesome park. If you haven't seen it check out the documentary "Free Solo".
Also Winchester House is close to San Francisco if that's something you would like.

What ever you do don't walked though or by the homeless camps, the one guy helping them out there got a nasty infection and lost his foot to the infection. He was a volunteer just trying to help people.

Alcatraz is cool. A must-see-once kind of place.

The Presidio used to be beautiful, now I think it is low income housing.

Pier 49 or whatever it is called... good food. Not much excrement.

Sequoia, Yosemite. Death Valley. Up through Trukee. Reno has awesome car museum.

    Cheers, sirhr
And Lake Tahoe is always worth a looksee. Especially beautiful in the winter.

    All the above.

If you rent a car go across the bay to UC Berkely (yeah I know). Its a beautiful campus and they have Rdwoods that the kids study under. Go up to the top of the 'Carillon' a tall tower with bells. You can look across the bay at San Francisco and if lucky watch the fog roll in.

The food is outstanding across the board. The best Thai Ive ever had. If you like fish try the 'Fog City Diner' down by the Embarcadero. Really great salmon. they were in a commercial a bunch of years back.

Fog City Diner usually has a reservation list a couple of months deep. At least it used to.

I try not to go any further west than Travis AFB for the last 15 years.

Don't forget about the Rainforest- There are some cool hiking / walking trails near Santa Cruz that wander through the rain forest...

Drive up highway 1- North of the city is empty... Valley Ford is a fun sleepy town with a cool B+B
Lots of rolling hills, wild turkeys....

the beaches north of SF are empty in the summer... in the winter... you can wander where you like
Valley Ford lies just north of the Estero Americano, about 5 mi from the Pacific Ocean. It is 7 mi north of Dillon Beach, 9 mi east of the town of Bodega Bay and 20 mi southeast of Jenner.

Travelling to Tahoe / Reno is a mixed bag- Some years the ski resorts have 20 feet of snow by thanksgiving... other years... Tahoe has no snow in december...

Here's a helpful calendar of interesting events to attend, you'll need to check back in December

Hermosa didnt mention Santa Rosa and Napa. Beautiful area if a bit pricey but great wine and winery tours.

I’m a foodie for sure, but like 15 miles south of the city there is a sweet ass Taco Bell on the beach in Pacifica. Only TB in the world on the beach. They just completely remodeled the thing, and they serve beer now too. I'm like a mile and a half from there and it is worth the weekday traffic to go check it out. Depending on the water, you can probably see a few dozen surfers out riding from the window.

If you are a foodie - check out Restaurant Gary Danko in SF. Amazing place for sure. If you are really a foodie - The French Laundry in Yountville will blow you (and your pocketbook) away. If you want to eat at either of those places get your reservations now. For some good BBQ in the city 4505 is a good spot, and the Rice Noodle Rolls at Sam Wo's are banging too.

Chase Center just opened so you can catch a Warriors game (even though your from Ohio). The Raiders are in town the first few weeks of December as well so you see them in Oaktown before they move to Vegas.

Just the baseline shit - I'm close to the city so hit me up if you need any more info.

Food here is great. The people and sidewalk turds....not so much.
Looks like snow in the Sierra's this weekend so I'm staying put in the city I suppose...shit.

One thing I do every time I'm in the Bay area if I have time is drive up north of SF and hit Tomales Bay Oyster Company. One of my favorite things either raw or barbequed.

10 days? Id wedge my hotel room door shut and oder food delivered with a pointy stick in hand. Going anywhere in cali is a risk, especially driving when unfamiliar.

Back to reality though, i drove around san fran and did go into some gorgeous forrest on my way to go salmon fishing. It was so surreal, giant trees, ferns everywhere and little creeks and streams. It was like a movie or time travel. That was a long time ago. Unfortunately, its now pretty much winter, cali sucks and i am semi serious about my first paragraph. Lol

I've been to Muir woods, last time I was here in 2006. Rented a bike and rode up there from Fisherman's Wharf. Big storm is moving in this afternoon for the weekend. I'll find some Bourbon and watch football.

I did find Greta though! ?

Tag that hideous mural of a mentally deficient child who other mentally deficient people idolize. For the sake of the children!!!!
