I am looking to build a switch barrel gun and am interested in what would be the most durable and long lasting coatings on the action.. Any input would be greatly appreciated..

Re: Coatings.. building 591 switch barrel..

Melonite/ Ion bond likely, although it is a metal treatment and not a coating.

Re: Coatings.. building 591 switch barrel..

Agree with Ionbond.

I used that on a Badger and I would use a piece of a rubber glove between the barrel vise and the barrel, between the ionbond strength and the extra protection of the rubber glove the barrel didn't show any marks.

Re: Coatings.. building 591 switch barrel..

Surgeons already have a Ion Bond, Preston calls it something else so why brother.

Re: Coatings.. building 591 switch barrel..

All his actions or do you have to specially request it ?? The Gray or White as it is called I believe is coated as well ??
