At least I labeled it as a rant when I posted it......I would venture to say its more relevant to shooting than a good bit of threads in the pit. Should have I put it in sidearms or scatter guns? Shooters leaving shit they shot and shells is a real fucking problem for anyone who uses public land. Good chance the only reason my spot is still "open" is because of me. The other 2 good spots close to me for long range shooting have "no recreational/ target shooting " signs all the fuck over because people cant clean up their shit. The cig butts and the fact that it was shredded OSB, bullshit junk aluminum 10mm and hulls only is what really got me on this one. Usually there is at least a bunch of 223 or 9mm brass for me as payment for cleaning up the glass and plastic.

There are a couple groups, at least in CO, trying to make it illegal to shoot on public, period , unless it is a "designated" shooting range. Their argument is two fold. Shooters trash the area with shells and tvs. But their main point is that even if we don't, we leave concentrated lead deposits and create "mini superfund sites all over the place". If they don't see the shells and shot up TV's, they are less likely to think about the lead deposits. Capiche?

One of the reasons I live where I do is I can shoot out to a mile (more if I did) 5 min from the house. Real nice feature for short quick training sessions, load development, etc. Lotta motherfuckers have to "make a day of it" to go shoot. The fuckers trashing it live in town, I'm sure and don't give a shit. I do, and they should. I just don't get what makes someone think its fine to leave their mess, but I guess to some, I am leaving a mess too.

I suppose you OP is what struck me, more as virtue signalling, than "Hey guys, we're facing losing shooting areas, you need to pack your trash out with you". Instead it came across as "Hey, I do my part, what about the rest of you guys?"...assuming the rest of us here at this site, are that type of shooter (leaving trash behind). Sorry, but some of the responses saying "there should be a law or a fine" are the same dumbasses that vote their freedoms away.

As a former smoker I understand both sides of the argument. But if you want to encourage people to change, to police up their trash, just do it by example. Not by standing on a soap box, ranting and trying to berate people. More bees with honey, and all that shit, you know? Not everyone is going to do it, regardless of what you scream, and asking government to intervene to change social behavior just strikes me as a really dumb idea....

My farms have miles of road frontage. I pick up literally truck loads of trash. The vast majority is either alcohol or tobacco related. Small % fast food and soda.
Over the years I have caught 6-8 people throwing it out or backing up a truck and dumping garbage etc. I have walked them up and down the road and had them pick up trash. Some were apologetic, most are mad as hell.
Some call the sheriff on me. So far I have not been charged. Doubt it’s a good plan.

And in principle I agree with you, but the reality is that that the air flow is also disturbed causing the disease travel a shorter distance. The 6 foot range drops to how much velocity the average person normally generates when they exhale, now with the filter that range shortens, the person on the other end of the 6 foot range is also masked and their ability to inhale is akin to a NASCAR restrictor plate race. What happens on the front side of the restriction: pressure does increase, no argument. What happens after you pass through the restriction the flow dissipates/reduces may find eddies to get hung up in as it loses its velocity. As the air passes through the restriction (face mask), what happens on the other side? The pressure drops and the water droplet is prevented from traveling further than the original 6 feet. If I have it, and am masked, and exhale, what I exhale is not going to have the same effective range as if I didn't have a mask. You on the other end are less likely ( I did not say there is a zero percent chance of infection) to receive any virion I am exhaling. If you are wearing a mask or shield, even less chance. There was an area, behind the municipal dump, that I (and many others) used to go shoot at. Up to about 15 years ago. As I've stated before, in other threads, each time I went there I'd police-up all the hulls/crap/brass in that area. Then I'd have a bit of a bon-fire at the end. Remember, this was 'behind' the dump.

Even though I did my part to keep the area clean(er) and somewhat respectable, the whole area was fenced-off and closed to shooters. I tried.

I used to enjoy shooting there. It was peaceful, convenient, and quite handy. Now, it's 'gone'.
