I have one of these coming in Monday and had a couple quick questions. Are there any bullets that the 24" 10twist WILL NOT stabilize? I'd like to give the 208 AMAXs a shot but mostly gonna run the 175SMK and 178 AMAX. Will it barrel shoot the 155 Scenars or is it too fast?

Second question is does anyone know what threads they use on the muzzle? Waiting on paperwork for a Form 4 for another rifle and it would be nice if I could swap the same can back and forth.

EDIT: Nevermind about the recoil lug. No idea where that came from. I meant to comment on the bolt release and an issue with DBM and aftermarket stocks but I found my answer already.

The 208's may be a tad too much, but give them a shot you never know. Shouldnt have any problems with the 155's, but you may find the 175 range shoot better out of the faster twist.

Not sure on the threads, Im sure Savage could tell you that, I had to call to confirm what the 110BA are (5/8-24)

Confused what your question is about the recoil lug? If youre looking to replace it with a thicker ground lug, www.sharpshootersupply.com sells a nice one made for the savage for ~$30. All you need is some headspace gauges to install it if you alread have the wrench.

I have shot all the bullets you have mentioned. The 208 amaxs shot very well but you just can't get the muzzle velocity. The 178 amax has been hands down the best bullet. With a lapua casing, 44.2gr varget seated a shade over 2.800, they just plain shot awesome. The 155 SMK also shot considerably well.

I've shot every weight of SMKs and Amaxes from 150 (SMK) to 178 (Amax) and with every bullet I quickly found a sub MOA load with 4064 AND 4895. Haven't found anything that couldn't be made to shoot well. The SMKs liked to be jammed in and the Amaxes liked a jump. I currently shoot 168s over 43.3gr 4895 at an OAL of 2.825 (.010 jump).

This is good. I have plenty of Varget and 4064 left over from when I had my Remington. That was just a little 20" 12 twist though. No brake, either. This is actually my first rifle with a proper long range barrel. How much more MV can I squeeze out of the longer, tighter barrel versus the shorter ones? So used to loading em light in the britches it's gonna be nice to work up a good hard hitting load.

Haha what a blanket statement. You choose the caliber that best suits your needs. I'll give you some reasons:

1. Already familiar and comfortable with the .308 round. I know it's ballistics, limits and what it does in the air.

2. I have a ton of .308 reloading gear. Dies, few hundred pcs brass, 1,000 projectiles.

3. I'm not a big game hunter and I don't need to shoot 1,300+ yards so why punish myself?

4. Match ammo and reloading components are plentiful as well as moderately priced.

5. I'm a firm believer that you should choose a cartridge, stick with it, become proficient with that cartridge and maybe even master it before moving on to another one. I toyed with the idea of a 243 or a 260 but .308 has always treated me well so why change and have to re train yourself?

6. Last, but not least, Savage doesn't list a LA FCP-K on their website anymore. Only SA in 223 and 308.

So if you want to hunt elephant and sasquatch with your 300WM then that's your prerogative. Great round, great ballistics, field proven over many years but to say that I should have bought a 300WM because it's a heavy gun just doesn't make any sense.

Well my friend has the 300 mag fcpk. We were shooting today actually. Great rifle and accurate, but it is a bit more expensive to shoot and the muzzle blast of that thing is not friendly. I shoot right with him out to 625 yards with my fcpk in 308.

Agreed on all points. Also, the 110 FCP-K came with a totally different stock, basically the hunting version of the Accustock with the narrow forearm. Hated it.

I totally agree the 10 style is a little nicer. When I bought my 110 I thought that was what I was getting, as it said that on the web site. My main complaint is with the standard grip, but that will be changed soon.

Is there anything you guys are doing to beef up the wrist of the stock? Got mine in today and my big hands swallow the tiny little thing like a toy. Maybe marine tex or something to thicken it up and add some grip?

Right now my right pinky is barely holding on to the bottom of the grip and slips off even when dry firing. Can't be a good thing. Only aftermarket option out there that I know of is the XLR and I was hoping to hold off on that for a little while.

Still gonna give the Accustock a try. Added an Eagle stock pack so the cheek weld is solid. Now about that grip....

I'm not worried about damaging it, as it is just an accustock after all. Just not sure what product is gonna give me good durability and comfort.

About the accuwedge, to be honest I'm not sure. The only other Savage I owned was a while ago and it had the cheap synthetic non accustock. I don't know a whole bunch about that system other than they use a steel spine to reinforce it.

Once I get the action out I'll let you know.

bear, you will know when it comes out of the stock. if they dont have the third screw then they should not have the wedge

an with glass or epoxy, i wonder if you will have to skim coat the whole thing or will the epoxy/glass stick and not peel or dellaminate

Mine is 110 FCP-K and it has the wedge.
