Re: Crashing sucks

When I got out of the Army in 71 I rode flattrack for quite a while.
I loved it.
A couple of years ago I built a street legal scooter with a Trackmaster frame, Cereanni [sp] forks and a 500 cc Yamaha OHC single.
It is really fun to ride but does start kind of hard.
I am glad you had all of your safety gear on as that is the only way to go.
When I do crank up my bike, it is full leathers, boots, gloves and the best I can get for a helmet.
My neighbors look at me kind of funny but they don't know how far I am going to stretch this ride. I get in trouble as My mind seems to wander and I know only two throttle positions, Idle and WFO. No one catches me, and I do limit my riding as it seems I have no mind when it comes to going for a ride. The Devil makes me do it.
My Squaw, thanks to another Hide member, now known as Panty 6, and I thank you for that reference although I don't know who you are but you are right in there with Panty 6, cringes when I lite my bike up.
She knows that I will either come home safe or have the cops after me and I am hiding the bike behind the fence or out at the farm or elsewhere.
You would think that at age 63 I would be able to control myself but that is not the case.

I sure am glad you had good gear on and weren't hurt too bad.

Re: Crashing sucks

From my flat track days, I would try to fit 4.00x19 in' tires under it if they would fit.
Gyro effect is what makes them stable and fast and the more rubber patch on the road the better. 19 vs 18 is the bigger gyro.
My scooter is 4:00x19 on both ends.
Hard to find good tires and would appreciate any input as to where to get the old type tires for spoke wheels.
Used to be able to get them from Whitney's until their stock ran out. Hard to find now. Regards, FM

Re: Crashing sucks

19's are tough to find for rear tires, but you should check out Avon. They make a Bias Ply 19" Speedmaster for front, and Safety Mileage S rated 19" x 4" for the rear.

I have an 18" rear Sun Alloy on my Sporty out back with a 19" up front. The combination was recommended by Works Performance for raod racing and speed stability to at least 175. *looks furtively both ways* Mine have seen in excess of a buck thirty and my old Bridgestone Battleaxes saw 150.

Re: Crashing sucks

Crap!
Went to take a set of forged exhaust nuts to teh shop for the exhaust system on my Sporty, American Heat, who is undergoing open heart surgery.
When the rear head was removed, there was evidence of a leaky head gasket on the front, so disassemble that. During the honeing process, the front jug was found to have a nice 1" crack developing just below the rear top end(better in the shop than on the street!)
All the gaskets are in(Cometic, top shelf silicone for other places) Rings are on the way from Axtell, and a pull off 883 jug is out to the machine shop to be bored to match the pistons and other jug so static compression is as equal as it can be.
Hoping to have her back by Friday afternoon so I can make the run to Murphreesboro VA Hospital for my Sleep Apnea test, otherwise it's the little Blast buzzing back and secondary roads to keep off the freeway

Re: Crashing sucks

Stupid me ended my carrer with a ZX14 crash in excess of 100mph. I lost all the skin off my body from waist down to the ankles, having that much road burn is not fun, ended up with only scars on my knees, 1/2 a kneecap. and some knee injuries on the other knee. Broke no bones but i did hyper extend buth legs/ankles/wrists/sholders. I was wearing helmet/jacket/gloves/ boots. The pants i was wearing was the Joe rocket denim riding pants kevlar lined. They did nothing but shred completly off.

Re: Crashing sucks

James, like you said. Now is the time to find issues such as those, so that they can be fixed properly, safely, and in detail.

Catastrophic failure, jugs 'grenading', and other "side of the road" dilemma's are NOT fun.

I'm sure you know. As to your comments Smith, my 'career' is the same, but opposite. My left arm is about the only thing that wasn't broken, and due to my leathers and whatnot I was totally protected from road rash.

That being said, and amongst everything else, having your pelvis broken in 4 places AIN'T FUN. I've been gibbled ever since. But I can shoot. Watch out for those 18yo idiot females in oncoming traffic who're not paying any attention whatsoever and turn in front of you. They'll darn-near kill you. Everytime.

Re: Crashing sucks

The helmet hit on the faceshield at the center. When I hit the road it was face down, and only when my arm went under me did my head hit, or in this case, my face scrubbed the ground. I used the momentum to go into a roll and come up on my feet.
As to further head trauma, still can't add, subtract, multiply, or divide without a calculator unless it's a very easy problem.
TBI in 2001, two landmines blowing up within 20' in 2006 makes for what they call 'Poly Trauma' at the VA. Maybe that's why Panty 6 says I'm an asshole and ain't been right since I came back from that armpit, course I say it's because my blood is too thick from lack of a daily 5o'clock double which is and has been scientifically proven to reduce heart issues in men

Damn right knee is still bruised, slightly swollen, and the center mass abrasion is trying to heal proper. Got this slightly squishy feeling of liquid around my patella and am resisting the urge to jab a sharp blade into it to see what's up!
