I was faced with yet another situation this past weekend, where I wanted to go eat at a great restaurant that is in a not so favorable area to park and walk. The problem is that the restaurant is not ccw friendly. I always carry my CRKT m16 knife when I can't carry my LCP pocket pistol. With that being said I have never had any training of how to use the knife to defend myself or family. Do any of you guys have suggestions of such training courses or DVDs? Thanks.

Re: Defensive blade course?

Most people I've talked to would rather learn and use hand-to-hand combat rather than knife combat. Only if you get really good instruction and know exactly what you're doing should you try self-defense with a knife. Otherwise, you're more likely to get hurt with your own knife than you are if you're unarmed.

That being said, +1 on what vkc said. Also, +1 to whatever ArcticLight and Switchblade may say if they post here.

I don't think I can learn it all from a video series. But, damn sure won't learn anything from not reading or watching material. I'm going to call the local self defense schools to see if they offer any of these courses. Thanks for the above link.

Re: Defensive blade course?

pickpick,

Didn't mean to imply that you can't learn anything from training videos, just that hands-on training is better. It comes down to practice. Glad to hear that you are exploring local self-defense schools. Good luck.
