Rifle Scopes dumb SSG69 scope ring question

sorry for the dumb question..

Do the QR mounting screws go on the port side or starboard side?

I've been looking on line and see them on both sides..or does it even matter?

i would want all them things that can booger up my knuckles and or otherwise obstruct or hang up ....on the side opposite the ejection port....
