Hello:

First post. I realize you guys see these same topics 72 million times but anyway. . .

Decided to put together my own 30-06 Springfield "sniper rifle". Went to the local Walmart yesterday and bought the budget Rem 700 ADL. (Intend to keep it as an ADL, at some future point I may decide to add a mag via a "Kwik Klip" and a bit of inletting.) Going to outfit, over time, with the Choate Tactical Stock, Pac-Nor barrel, Sightron Slll, Burris XTR Low rings, EGW 20moa base, Harris Bi-Pod, and maybe a Timney Trigger (I might just keep the "X-Mark Pro" that it came with if it seems okay.) That is it. The price point is something on the order of 2.2K. (The Walmart 700 was $420 in toto.) Hope that is reasonable. Let me know if you think I could get better value in the various elements.

Now for my question: I figure it will be the first day of May when I can order the final part, as I can only afford a part each month. So, would you blast away and just figure on shit-canning the parts that you are going to be replaced. Or do they have enough value to try and sell them off as unused? I'm thinking toss them and spend the next few months shooting the gun and working up some reloads that I like. Thoughts?

Nice to be here. Looks like an overall very informative site.

Welcome to the Hide.

I’m not sure what of value they may be but I say post the OEM parts on Craigslist once you have the replacements in hand. Maybe someone buys them, maybe not but it does not hurt to try and you may make a little extra money for ammo. Good luck with your new project.

Take off barrels and stocks will usually bring you enough to buy SOMEthing even if some reloading components. Get the barrel taken off with no marks and you can get40-50$, 25-30 easy. Stocks- sell ok, especially to people who pick them up to put on guns they have nice wood stocks on and want to hunt with. The Xmark pro trigger...........I'll keep my mouth shut, but if you replace it you can probably get a few dollars out of it, or trade, etc.
My Rosie started life as Wal-Mart ADL I picked up for like 300$ used. Now she is sporting an HS stock and #8 Shilen Select match etc....... so you got a foundation! Good Luck!

Roger, that, also. I'll probably shoot it. I will get some dies and chrono some rounds from a recipe I scavenged from here.

Then post the items I remove, hell, a few bucks is better than tossing them.

My range is my front yard!

I mentioned above what barrel I was going to use BUT I have been wondering, do you guys recommend anything specific along the < or = $500 shipped price point?
