Sidearms & Scatterguns Glock 42, some will love me...

I'll wait for a 9mm version as well, I don't need another caliber to reload for. And if I'm going to carry it, I'm going to shot it a lot!

Hi Hawk:

If you have 9mm dies, you should be able to use them to reload .380. My memory may be failing with age... but I think my dies do both. Been so long since I loaded 9mm, I'd have to go look. But get some brass and everything else just fits...

Cheers,

Sirhr

Possibly. I've just never been a big .380 fan. Nine or .45 suit me better.

Checked one out today at local shop. They are a nice compact size. Makes my G26 feel like a G30. A 9mm version, even if slightly bigger would be nice. I also checked out a few other compacts and they were all much bigger (Shield, XDS).

Got the little 42 this weekend!

My wife and I only shot 13 rounds on Saturday because the only ammo we could find was expensive self defense ammo and we wanted to save the rest for carry for now. First impression was awesome though.

Then today I lucked out and found dies, brass, bullets and powder to make up some reloads which I tested this evening. All went well.

I'm super impressed with the G42 as a whole! The pluses I outlined in my previous post exactly describe what I like about this pistol. So far it's been surprisingly accurate, reliable, easy to hold, easy to point, extremely soft shooting, with very low recoil and muzzle rise. So much so I think I could score well in our local IDPA match with it.

The wife really likes it too.

I'm ordering 1000 bullets tomorrow so she can get to training with it.

Update:

I shot our local IDPA match with the Glock 42 this last weekend for the fun of it.

I shot all five stages without dropping a point. I don't know if I've ever even done this before! Times were 90% of what I'd normally shoot with a full size 9mm. Heck I might have even won the match, won't know till the scores get emailed.

That is one shooter friendly little pistol I'll tell ya. I really like it!

I picked up my 42 Saturday. Love the little thing. Took it out today and put 200 flawless rounds thru it. 50 Lawman fmj, 50 Winchester fmj, 50 Fiochi fmj, and 50 HPR jhp. I shot all at 10 yards. When I shot slow and deliberate I was rewarded with nice 6 shot golf ball size groups. When I shot double and triple taps at rapid pace, I got nice tennis ball size 6 shot groups. I will be ordering a pocket holster from my favorite maker tonight (pocketholsers.com) until it arrives it seems to work fine in a size 4 uncle mikes pocket holster.

I had to have one. Only thing I would like to see is a few more available parts for it. I want an extend slide release like they offer for the big models and factory night sights. I know they make night sights. Just like the steel glock ones.

I shot one yesterday and absolutely loved it. Points naturally, fits in your hand comfortably, recoil is soft. I had absolutely no problem hitting the center of 66% IPSC plates as fast as I could over and over using a combat sight picture at 10 yards. I will be buying one as soon as my distributer has one available.

I put a DeGroat Nano suppressor on mine.

I have run one box through it works fine with no piston, the can is so light weight. I will try to make a video and post it. Here is another picture

Bladesmith2 I've got to say that is a slick setup. I picked up a G42 about 3 Weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed carrying it. Despite the internet threads about it being picky about what it likes to eat I have had absolutely zero problems with it. Like most I'm carrying Hornady Critical Defense. Just curious bladesmith2 about your barrel can you give some more details on who did the work and how? Much appreciated. And to anyone undecided on this new little 380 go ahead and pull the trigger "pun intended" It's an excellent little carry gun.

As I recall, ATF has a long list of criteria and specifications to allow import of handguns. The tiny Glocks always failed ONE of these onerous criteria, thus banning its import.

The ATF assigns a point value to imported pistols depending upon their features. Pistols must have enough points to be considered sporting and be allowed for import. Many of these points are assigned to meaningless things such as a groved trigger, a thumb rest or finger groves in the grip. That is the reason that as smaller glock pistols were introduced, glock added things such as the thumb rests or finger groves to their line of handguns. The smaller pistols needed them to meet their points requirement. This is also the reason that compact and sub-compact glocks have groved triggers while full size guns have smooth triggers. The reason we never saw the older .380 pistols here was that they didn't have enough points for import. They were also the same size as the 9mm guns and ment primarially for markets were 9mm was illegal. Glock had little incentive to chase the American market didn't need a .380 the size of a 9mm gun.

To avoid this problem with the g42, glock simply makes them here.

How have these things been running for people? The few we have seen on the range were. Very picky about ammo. They seemed to choke on Winchester.

That suppressed g42 is absolutely awesome. The only thing in .380 I would want more would be a suppressed ppks.

I've had one for about 2 months and have right at 450 rounds through it, all sorts of different types and weights of ammo and haven't had a malfunction yet. Its very accurate for what it is and its a great summer carry option when my G19 with Tlr-3 is too bulky to carry. Its so thin I wear it no problem with athletic cut tshirts without printing at all. I wish it was 9 but it will do until glock released a small single stack 9.

I bought one of the 42's for my wife. Since she has little hands it works well for her. First shots through had FTE and the rest of the mag ran fine. The mag has a metal lip that I filed a 45 deg angle on and it ran fine after that. Hopefully they fix it before it becomes a regular problem. Simple fix, but people will always bitch.

The word we just recently got here at the shop is that all the buzz about a 9mm being in the works is false. Reps were simply assuming the 9mm would be forthcoming. A release sent to Glock reps in May stated there were no current plans to release the weapon in a 9mm.

Take it for what it's worth. That's what we heard last month from our local Glock rep.

I don't want to break any advertising rules, so if I'm doing so, I'll take it down. But we have a couple of these in stock at Hawktech Arms in Boise Idaho.

Guess that means a slimilne version of the G27 is out too...

While I'm here do you fellas mind posting pics up of your holsters and the make and model. I was thinking I would snag something like the RC VG2 but they do not make it for the 42 yet. So Im looking around. Checked RC Alien Gear and Blade tech so far.

Wake me up when the first +1 or +2 mag extensions become available. I've tried the Pearce pinkie extension and don't like it. I need something a little longer.

This was one of the few offered when I picked up my 42.... so far it's served it's purpose.

Man I hear ya... I'd love a +2 or even a +3 ext.

Got my 42 today. Really like everything about it. Yeah it is a 380, but I wouldn't want to get hit with a rock so in my opinion a 380 is better than chucking rocks! I put 110 rounds through it. 50 were Federal American Eagle FMJs, 50 were Remington UMC FMJs, 5 where Hornady Z-Max (don't hate) Critical Defense were out of stock when I order that ammo, and 5 were Winchester PDX1 HPs. All ammo listed preformed just fine and the gun ran without a flaw. I feel both the Federal and Remington will work fine for training. For Self Defense carry ammo I am leaning to the Winchester PDX1 as they are without a doubt hotter than the Z-Max/Critical Defense rounds and 5 gn. heavier. The biggest thing that I like about this pistol is it shoots like any other Glock, this is great if considering the G42 for a BUG or if you choose a shorts and flip flops EDC. I have a feeling I will carry more than what I expected once I find a carry solution I like. For Now Some pics.
