Go to .308 default load

Good info for me as I am working up AR10 loads.

175 Sierra Match
44.5 Varget
Federal brass
210M primers
Ten Thousands back from the lands on a GAP Crusader.

You nailed it. EXACTLY THE SAME LOAD IN MY CRUSADER. FYI , you ought to try 47 to 47.5 grains of power pro 2000 mr. You'll pick up about 100 fps and it's extremely accurate. I went from 2680 to 2770 fps. Also 46.5 with a 185 Berger is AWESOME!!

Here's a couple out of a Remington 5R with a 24", 1:11.25 twist

175 SMK over 43.4gr Varget, Lapua brass, BR2 primer
155 Scenar over 46.8gr Varget, Lapua brass, BR2 primer

Same here, mine has been 175 smk w/ 41.8 H4895 in LC LR over either FGMm 2105 or CCI 200 seated to mag length. This was a little hot for my semi auto with some ejector swipes.

In most non military brass I've had good results with 44 varget under a 168 amax in several rifles.

Fgmm has been an awesome one in most rifles factory or clones. Lately in several rifles lapua brass, 44.5 varget, br2 175 smk shoots great. It was a friends load who we decided to travel and shoot together and hoped one load would work great in case we had to share. Turns out it has worked great in 4 other 308s as well.

Two favorite Rem 700 5R loads:

178 Hornady HPBT Match - 2585 fps
43.3 gr Varget
CCI BR-2
BHA (Win) case, 2.825 OAL

175 SMK - this is the next slightly hotter accuracy node
44.5 Varget
CCI BR-2
BHA (Win) case, 2.825 OAL

Yeah H4895 has been great for me in 308. Another old school one is 39.5 3031 powder with the same components. Varget has really eclipsed powders like 3031 in usefulness but with the shortages...if that's all you can find...then you can just grab a bunch and go to town with that charge.

What kind of velocity did you see with 175smk & 39.5 3031?

Thanks guys! This is a huge help. Looking at getting into reloading and takes out a ton of guess work

I must be missing something, all this time I thought 2.82 was a go to OAL, but it seems to be actually 2.8. Maybe ill have to start seating my rounds at 2.8 for my screwing around shooting load.

It depends on YOUR rifle and the throat.

My factory Rem 700 barrel likes them loaded as long as I possibly can and fit the magazine.

Lapua Brass
43.5 grain Varget
175 SMK
Federal 210M primer

Depends on which powder. I have currently a pet load for Win 748, 2000MR , IMR 4064, and Benchmark. Each perform about the same (giving a slight best consistency nod to W748). I've learned through the current "powder availability crisis" to be diverse and work up different powders instead of relying on one popular pet powder (i.e. Varget which is never available). So no matter what powder is (or is not) on the shelves at my LGS , i've got a precise load ready. Seems my R700 varmint's best velocity accuracy node is around 2560 to 2610 fps

168 SMK, Win 748 , 41.9 2.8" oal

178 Amax, IMR 4064, 42.3 , 2.8" oal

168 SMK , 2000MR , 43.3 , 2.8" oal

168 SMK , Benchmark, 39.9 , 2.8" oal .

45gr N140 under a 155gr A-max or Scenar, in Lapua brass and CCI primers, 2.8" works great for me.
Also, the usual 44.5gr varget under a 175smk used to work until varget disappeared then stopped coming into the country.
