Hello, I'm Jamie from south central PA, long time troll of this forum for several years along with many other shooting forums. I really do not have many subscriptions to forums but I feel as I venture into different calibers on more of my custom platforms, that actually participating will be more beneficial to myself. Other than that, I am just a simple girl who likes to do a lot of outdoors things and my hobbies include firearms(obvious), cars(jeeps mainly, have 2 cj's), and electronics(its my job also). anyway, feel free to ask any questions.

Huachuca?

I'm in Cochise County, Pearce/Sunsites, in the Eastern shadow of The Dragoon Mountains. I'm about 70 miles due East from Tucson.

Huachuca has (reportedly) an OK MWR shooting range, supposedly good to 100yd. Sierra Vista has a range East of Town, heading toward Tombstone, that has some Mid-Range distances. I shoot at Douglas, which goes out to 300yards/300meters.

I had originally thought that the desert would support LR shooting, but in fact, all the land has ownership of one kind or another. You can still do it, but be prepared for longer drives to find the longer distances.

The only place I've shot that offers 1000yd is Ben Avery Range near Phoenix, and at my age, that's an overnight trip.

Greg, how about the Palo Verde valley (between hwy 90 & the Palo Verde river). Did some LR out there last week during a camping trip, not too bad..
.

I have an area to shoot in McNeal, I'm quote on quote hanging my hat in Arizona as my final home and joining the army reserves to finish my retirement. The army sent me to huachuca for 3 times for training after s spending my entire life on the East Coast. So the Army spoiled me up rooted me and guided me to fall in love with Arizona more or less.

I am refugee from NJ/NY, been here since Memorial Day 2016, still learning my way around. You probably have more time on the ground here in AZ than I do.

I knew McNeal sounded familiar, I live just W of 191, 30 miles North; we pass McNeal on our way to Douglas, which has the Douglas R&P run Douglas Municipal Shooting Park. I belong to the Club, the range has handgun, rifle, and CBP-reserved ranges. There is provision for archery and for shooting clays (with prior notice). I'd be interested in finding out more about your shooting site in McNeal.

Palo Verde is W of Phoenix, which would be a bit of a stretch for this Elder Fart. I'd need an overnight stopover.

Greg, no, the Palo Verde valley is just east of Karchner Caverns. Probably an hours drive from where you live, maybe less.
