So far i have a savage 12 flv .223 threw a new A5 clone stock on it. i have a bushnell 3200 elite 10x40 mil dot on it now when i save up the funds want to buy a better optic. what is the deciding factor between leupold, IOR, nf, and us optics. mostly target shooting maybe some small game hunting and varminting. maybe shooting about 1000yds max. any recommendation?

You are about to start a fight. Go look through them all. I like NF scopes. Tough as nails, pretty good glass, great resale.

Buy the best one of them you can barely afford and stay married, yes, you will thank yourself later.

Re: Help on picking a new scope

Still recovering from my USO purchase, but man is it beautiful! Seeing my target clearly, knowing every click of my turret is completely dependable and predictable. Its a thing of beauty.

I completely agree with the buy once cry once concept. How many people have bought a lower mid range scope scope first, swapped + cash or lost some cash on a sale just to get an upper mid. . .then same to get to a high end optic. It ends up costing you more in the long run and leaves you wanting. If you can bite the bullet and get the one you really want/need. Do it. Look through everything. . Play with the knobs, look up multiple oppinions (you will find fan boys and haters for every brand out there), and get exactly what you want. You will absolutely thank yourself later.

Re: Help on picking a new scope

Got a USO (3.2-17 TPAL) last Friday, and a NF today (Monday). Right now, I'm favoring the USO- but won't have a real chance to compare them until this weekend when I get to go shooting. They're both nice, but the EREK knob on the USO is nicer than the 10 mil NF turret, the EREK has more distinct clicks. I strongly prefer the USO GAP Mil reticle over the MLR in the NF. Other than that, the NF is much more of a 'polished' product- the USO looks like it was built by hand in a custom shop (imagine that

).

Without having an S&B here to compare it's tough to 'rank' the glass. USO exhibits some tunneling at low powers, but nothing unheard of. USO's glass definitely has more 'pop' to my eyes, I prefer the glass in it.

My USO was about $400 more than my NF. Was it worth it? Only time will tell, but at this point I definitely think so. I love made in the US products, and that is always a big selling point to me. Knowing that this scope was completely assembled in California is cool.

Re: Help on picking a new scope

I got rid of my leupold Mark 4(though it was pretty good) and got a NF 5.5-22x56 (my dream scope) and now I recently received an IOR 6-24x50 to put on a DPMS LR-308 I am waiting on. Let me tell you that atleast on a first impression basis the IOR looks absolutely impressive. As mentioned earlier the NF is my dream scope but if this IOR performs the way it looks than things may change. Realisticly the way I can explain it best is my NF (though new to my collection) is like that proven veteran you know you can count on but the IOR right now (b4 mounting and putting it through the motions)feels like that star rookie with all kinds of potential. The glass is outstanding, the large turret is impressive and I dont think that reticle can be beat. I just hope I'm not back on in a couple of weaks crying about how my IOR went wrong. FINGERS CROSSED !!!

Re: Help on picking a new scope

I just got my Nightforce but I am very happy with it. You will not go wrong with NF, USO, or IOR. Determine the features you want and pick the one that comes closest to meeting those requirements.

Re: Help on picking a new scope

IOR have very nice glass and would work really well on it. Also I have been testing out the Leupold Mark 4 M5 and I have been really, really impressed with it.

The Leupold Mark4 M5 has 1/10mill adjustments that are very positive (more positive than the M1 turrets), the turrets track spot on, the FFP reticle is clean throughout the whole power range.

I feel a 4.5-14x50mm MK4 M5 would be the way to go on that setup.

We sell IOR, Leupold, and a lot more optics so if we can be of help feel free to ask.
