How did you get your Ruger precision rimfire barrel off?

Trying to get my boys barrel off to no avail.

The problem is twofold.

1. The fire control group / trigger assembly detent latch or whatever you call it won’t go down far enough to remove it.

2. Trying to remove the barrel nut and I noticed a bunch of waxy looking stuff about the color of beeswax around the receiver end of the barrel nut which I am assuming is some sort of lock tight . So I hit it with a heat gun to melt it off and I still could not get the barrel nut off. I do not want to tweak the receiver so my next option is penetrating oil .

Those of you that have removed the barrel nut what did you use to get it off?

Got it off with heat and a lot of penetrating oil.

Looks like they used a ton of their LocTite stuff on it.

Going to clean it well before I put the new barrel on

Like at @Frankr , penetrating oil (Kroil is REALLLY GOOD in this regard) will help a bit. But if really cranked on action, and you aren't concerned with keeping old barrel, I'd grind two small flats in barrel to secure in vice without rotating. Then with barrel secured well in vice, use large box wrench or crescent to break free. Ruger states an armorers wrench will work but I used a large crescent and deadblow hammer. I found sharp blows to help more than slow pressure but YMMV.

If keeping the original barrel, get a true barrel vice with proper inserts an you have it off in no time flat.

Don't clamp directly to action body action unless you have proper tools (action vice with appropriate blocks/action wrench)...ask me how I know. Lol.
