Many think the name comes from only carrying that particular knife. The knife in question that earned me the nickname broke when it was removed from an attacker's hand after giving me the scar on my forearm that earned the nickname. I still have the knife and it still had both mine and his blood on it until around 2004 when Panty 6 decided it was ugly and needed to be polished because it looked 'all rusty and stuff'.
I carried a few different folders with my favorite being a smaller Ken Onion assisted opener with a serrated tanto blade that was 'tuned up' by Rod Carabou out in WA. Riki has it now and loves it. Me, I carry my Top's Scalpel for utility stuff mostly. Good handling small sized blade, solid handle, and a full 1/4" thick, just a wicked little knife. I have loved the Top's stuff for a while, but I know as soon as I visit Kim Breed's shop Top's will probably be the girl who was tossed aside for the nicer one. Kim makes these wicked damascus blades
