Anyone have an actual M16 Maximum Headspace Gage, Ordnance Part Number 7799734, NSN 4933-00-070-7814

That they would care to ship on my dime and back to you priority mail???

Having a wee bit of trouble finding one and wouldn't mind checking Max without stripping bolts.

Does it pass a field test?

Quick test if you can full resize a spent round in the reloading press, trim, etc.. seat a spent primer and fill it out with media and any bullet to COAL well compressed but w/o deforming anything.
Chamber that dummy round. I should go into battery just fine.

Then take a scotch tape and measure the thickness with the calipers. it should be around 2 thousands. cut a smal piece and tape at the base of the dummy bullet. With a razor go around making
sure you do not leave any excess around the edges. Make sure the bae of the case is clean of oil so the tape sticks really well.

Chamber that round. IF the bolt goes into battery it means you have that much tolerance but might be ok sill. Adding a second layer should not allow you to close the bolt.
If it does do not shoot that rifle. Again the key is to know the thickness of that tape.

You can do a delta measure but using a case-bullet gauge or simply using a straight well rounded 30 carbine, or 7mm round against the datum. Might want to take several measures
and get the average. Differences should be in the 2 thousands or so.

This is not substitute for the proper gauge but it will give you a red light if the chamber is out of whack that I highly doubt. But I have seen this a couple of times in 25 years.
