While taking a Drivers Ed class (have to take it here in VA to get your license. Oh, how I miss Florida for that!) today (nine days in total), I started writing down some things that I actually enjoy: balistics. Here is a situation (first one) that I gave myself to fiqure out.

1,000 yards- (Made up stats) .308 168smk, .520 BC, 3,100fps, 68% humidity, left to right half value wind of 10mph, 156 in. drop, 68 in. wind drift.

1/4moa (based on 4 clicks=1") at 100yd. per click. 1/4 x 10/1 = 2 1/2 in. per click at 1,000yd.

This is what I fiqured. 7 clicks = 20 in. Solution - ~55 clicks or 13.75moa down and 3.0625moa (for half value wind) left windage. (Did I do alright for no information in front of me and no calculator?)

Second Situation - 1,500 yards (Made up stats) .338 Lapua 230g., 3,250fps, .610 BC, 68% humidity, left to right full value 15mph wind. I didn't give myself the drop or drift information for this range.

1,000yd. stats - (Made up) 45 in. wind drift at 10mph, 110 in. drop, ~2 sec. to impact, 2,750fps (probably way off from actual stats) at impact.

So, 50% increase in wind speed, 50% increase in range, 4 sec. to impact (made up), 1,900fps at impact.

1/4 x 15/1 = 3 3/4 in. per click 3=15 6=30 9=45

From that information, this is what I got.

1,350fps depression total, (based on 1,000yd stats) 1 in. = ~ 4.5fps depression (if it were to really work like that).

Solution - 67.5 in. wind drift, 300 in. drop
3.375moa of left windage, 15moa down

(I know most of this stuff is probably way off, but it was really quite fun trying! Just thought I'd share this with you all.)

Re: My spare time shooting calculations!

your going to be hard pressed to get a 168gr to 3100fps and if you did your moa up would be in the 26moa area with a bc of .462. not sure on your data math. it's not real clear to me.

Re: My spare time shooting calculations!

As I said in my post, these are "made up stats." The bullet information was something, again, that was "made up."

I was doing all this just to work my boared mind and have some fun at the same time. Am I right or close though in my caculations and such?

Re: My spare time shooting calculations!

Don't you worry, I was listening. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but honestly, I know just about everything that the teacher is tellig us for four hours a day so far.

Anyways, back to the topic.

Alright, got some real bullet balistics. Now, let me see if I can dial in my "scope."

Re: My spare time shooting calculations!

I got this information from that little free Remington Shoot program.

1,000 yards - .308 Winchester 168g., 2,680fps, .475 BC, 10mph full value wind, 397.61 in. drop, 102.78 in. drift, TOF 1.703, 1203fps at impact.

39.761moa down, 10.278moa windage

Correct caculation?
