Jon from Aadmount recently sent me a set of his new caps for my Razor. I know we had a post about the poor quality of most scope caps offered, so I believed a comparison might help folks decide.

What sets Jon's caps apart from other manufacturers is the quality of the material and the actual opening/closing mechanisms. I do not know what the material is, but it is some sort of polymer that is extremely rigid. I only have experience with Butler Creek's and the caps sent with the Razor. Those caps use a material that, from my experience, has been prone to warping and wearing out rather quickly. When that occurs, the integrity of the closing mechanism is compromised, which has then caused
the caps to not stay closed and to also make it difficult to close them. The "Bushwacker" caps that came with my Razor did not work from the start. The objective lense cap does not close all the way around the ring, and after only a little use, the ocular cap will not remain closed. As soon as I toss it in the scabbard, the ocular cap opens up.

The Aadmount caps are made of an extremely rigid material. However, they went on the scope smoothly, no issues there. I was able to run them in a match this last weekend, so although they have not "stood the test of time," I still had the opportunity to play with them quite a bit. I did sit in front of the TV watching The Walking Dead and just constantly opened/closed the caps.

The objective cap has two nubs on each side of the cap, similar to a BC objective cap. When you press on either of them with your thumb or whatever, the cap opens with authority. In fact, when I first opened it, I thought, "damn, that might scratch the scope after a few runs." Well, what I did not see at the time was the fact that Jon had placed a "bump" on the side of the ring where the cap opens up onto. This "bump" stops the cap from even touching the scope. Also, the bump is present on the ocular cap.

The ocular's opening mechanism is a red push-button also similar to a BC. It opens with the same amount of force as the objective cap does.

Another significantly improved aspect of Jon's caps is the ability to easily close them, and the fact that they seem like they will remain closed. I say, "seem like they will remain closed," because I have not had them for long. As I have experienced with other caps, much of their degradation comes from using them over a period of time.

In fact, I noticed that these improved caps have such a tactile and audible closing mechanism that I didn't even have to look to see if they had closed completely. On the objective, I did not have to push on one side then the other to make sure it was closed completely (as I had to on one of my SSHD's).

All in all, the caps are outstanding, thus far. I cannot foresee the material wearing out, but again, as time goes by, and they see more and more use in various conditions, there might be some issues.

I will definitely dig this back up and report back if I do experience anything with them. However, even if there is an issue, I'm quite sure Jon would work hard to rectify it anyhow. I have never seen a BC rep on The Hide looking for feedback ;)

I had actually resigned myself to using bikini caps for my scopes because I was so tired of the cheap crap that was offered to us. Looks like we have ourselves a legitimate contender here, folks. The Aadmount caps will be going on all of my optics, hands down. It is pretty damn cool to know we have a direct line with manufacturers of products and that some of them actually listen to end users.

Congratulations on another great product, Jon. Thanks for listening to us!

Here are some pics. I believe Jon meant for the ocular cap to cover the knurling of the focus ring completely. I believe this will be featured on all other Razor ocular caps (please correct me if I am wrong, Jon):

Thanks for the kind words TJ. I'm glad they're working well for you.

I believe Jon meant for the ocular cap to cover the knurling of the focus ring completely. I believe this will be featured on all other Razor ocular caps (please correct me if I am wrong, Jon):

Yes, I'm bumping up the diameter of that cap slightly so it'll slide on a bit farther. That should give a better overall fit.

And by popular demand I have opened these up for pre-order: Flip Up Cap Set, Vortex Razor 5-20X50 Tactical .

It might be a good 3-4 weeks for these to ship as I want to test fit the new ocular cap to make sure it's right before sending a bunch out, but people are wanting to get in line so there you go.

Thanks guys.

I have had them on my Bushnell HDMR for about 2 months and love them. The open and close is solid, perfect fit, they seem very durable. They'll get a real field test when elk season opens next month. I have Tenebraex covers on my Steiner. The aadmount flips open easier in my opinion . Great customer service too. Thanks for a great product!

Sir will you be making the caps for the US Optics St 10 and the LR17? If so let me know which ones I need to get.
Thanks!

I have a love hate with these damn things. I love how good and durable they are but I hats its gonna cost me $600 to get them for the rest of my scopes. By far the best caps I have ever tried.

Does anyone think having an Aadmount ocular and objective housing dimension chart in 0.000" inches might be helpful along with the brand and model specific chart they already have ?
It could be used to maybe find Aadmount lens covers for scopes not yet listed. Lets say you have a scope with a 42mm/1.653" inch dimension objective housing, but it is not listed on their
website but their are covers from another scope application that might work. It would just make it easier than looking through the currently available applications and doing the math. Also, what is the +.000" and -.000" tolerance for the material Aadmount uses for their covers ?
